You already can't criticize certain things in the food industry (veggie libel laws) so this is a logical next step. It is ridiculous. What happened to free speech? You can take pornographic photos, but not farm photos? What is up with that?

Lawmakers are taking action to address the egregious conditions that exist at factory farms.
What does "address" mean? I think that must be political speak for "sit on our hands and do nothing".

Even more outrageous is that the pending laws apply to photos of all farmseven those upholding good, clean, and fair farming practices. So how can we convince these legislators that theyre wrong? By sending a petition to the key legislators in each state, and also by flooding their offices with photos of real farms, submitted by people like you, from all around the country. Lets show those lawmakers that we, the Farmarazzi, are taking a stand to safeguard our right to know what goes on behind closed barn doors.
We could easily overcome the no-photo laws if we band together. No law enforcement could handle 100,000 people standing at a fence with cameras taking pictures. This would have to be an orchestrated effort and across the nation and we would have to demonstrate at hundreds of farms at the same time. There is tremendous power in numbers.

Can you tell that I'm a product of the 60's? Power to the people! Down with the establishment.! :old

I was reading a comment from one of the blog members and they were saying how, while they don't agree with "the Big Ag" they do think it's uncalled for to allow people to take pictures of your farm at will...invasion of privacy type thing.

I get that, but a simple no trespassing sign would prohibit people from coming on to your property. If you catch them in your barn, you can have them arrested.

IMO, while I don't want random strangers on my property taking pictures, if they see our cows in the field from the side of the road and want to take a picture - go ahead! We're proud of them and know we aren't mistreating any of our animals.

If someone miscontrues what they see and use that picture against us, again, go ahead. We know what we're doing is OK and right so what would we be worried about?

You weren't supposed to notice.

Those laws would not stand a constitutional challenge. Of course, that usually takes someone going to jail for it first. I would do it. Jail THIS beetches!!!

plus - what a sites like google earth gonna do? the satellite pix are everywhere.

i think what some of this is trying to do is get back at the fake humane society goons who are sneaking in and taking pix of farms and screaming about how bad big farming is. i think they are missing the point entirely.

plus you couldnt walk into Intel and just start snapping pix. you'd be tackled by security and "escorted" to the door.

totally agree with Gleno - trespassing should be enough without all this crap.

Oh you can criticize BUT you must have real facts on your side not the phony science that is believed by many. And I may be wrong but I think it is still illegal to take pornographic pictures without consent of the people pictured. The right to be left alone on your own properity (some times called privacy) is at least equal to the right of free speech. espically the right to make false statements in your free speech. You could look it up.

If you catch them in your barn, you can have them arrested. This is great in theory, You actually think no trespassings signs prevent trespassing? and how long does it take for the Law Enforcement Officer to get to your place after you make the call? I could be long gone before the LEO arrives. BTW just so you know in most places you can not prevent an animal protection agent from entering your barn if his stated purpose is to check on the welfare of the animals. Often these are not sworn officers but are backed by such as PITA or HSUS. And that doesn't only apply to farms but to all animals ( found this out when we used to use animals in our labs to check on the safety of human drugs Animal agents could come at any time without notice and they could take pictures of any animals (but not humans) ~gd

I know very well the signs won't stop anyone from trespassing and IN THEORY people "could" be arrested, but it does provide legal back up in the event the system works as its *supposed to*. Of course, there's always the "redneck" versions of how to keep people off your property....That's a completely different topic, though, and best left out of this particular discussion.

What I was saying is that this particular "law" or whatever they're making it to be pretty much already exists - in the form of trespassing signs.

And, FWIW, I sure as heck wouldn't allow someone from PITA or whatever on my property without some type of valid, warranted reason. Again, another discussion for another day...
