And honestly, I am a little biased about people who buy brand new vehicles to begin with, as I don't feel they are spending their money wisely. But that is JMO. If someone has that much expendable money, then they can blow it away if they feel like it. If someone has that much money they can afford to be oblivious. I worry more about those who may not have much in savings but are still spending as if times have not changed.

I love it when people buy new vehicles, take good care of them then trade them off in 3 or 4 years cause thats where all our vehicle purchases h have come from for the last 25 years!

Sounds like a SMART thing. It CAN happen here. We look more like the Weimar Republic every stinking day!

I do have a passport as I have traveled overseas recently - my kids however do not, and I wouldn't jump ship without them.

And very quickly we were not allowed to leave the country, except to go to concentration camps and be converted to smoke.

We have also maintained passports for similar reasons for me.... but the question now is..... where to run to? where to hide?
Would one be any safer in Canada or Mexico? Africa? England? Netherlands? without property, without money?
Tell me? just where?

I love Mexico. We go there frequently but if the SHTF, and it already is for many in Mexico, who have become accustomed to an "American" lifestyle, it will become very dangerous there.

When I last traveled in Mexico many houses had a new pickup truck in the yard... this time I expect I will see broken pickups in the yard because less and less people will be sending money home. They will be forced to return to what they had which is very difficult.

President of Mexico is calling for legalization of drugs to stop the violence in their country. Just what does he think those who work in drug trade will do? return to the corn patch? they are a very violent crew use to money and having their way. It is a multi mulit billion dollar business on both sides of the border. what will that drug dealer who lives down the street from you do when he has no more drugs to sell.

If the SHTF here to the extent we are considering it will happen most everywhere

I completely agree . . . but I hope for their sake they can afford it. After hearing the statistics on how little most Americans have saved for retirement (or for making it until they find a new job) . . . well, it scares me!

One thing, since 1999, my husband has said "DO NOT GO SOUTH!"

The Northwest Territorries of Canada, Alaska nice cool places where people are less violent, more room to roam.

Will we leave here? Who knows? But, without a passport, you can't go anywhere. This will be a worldwide "learning experience." So we will not escape it no matter where on the earth we go. We need to be doing what is right to do, because it is right to do, regardless of where we are. Maximize our ability to be blessed and minimize our need for correction.

It used to be that on average I would come home with 50 cents to a dollar in change that I had picked up on the roadside 3 days a week. Now I might pick up a coin once every other week.

The other little thing that I noticed this morning that is probably an indicator of much larger things is the garbage. It used to be that on garbage day, over 1/2 of the containers were filled to overflowing where the lid wasn't closed. Today I noticed exactly 4 containers that did not close and one of them was because of a cardboard box that they didn't break down. I doubt that anyone in that neighborhood is even conscious of it.

DM - you mentioned a couple pages ago that some folks are still acting like its the same. i think "there in the bubble" its totally true - but even the folks i know there (and in hi-tech) are starting to finally notice how bad it is. a couple folks have said "so if its so bad why dont you just move back here" - HA! like i could even afford it anymore. but i heard that home prices are back to what they were in 2004 so.. hum... maybe.....

actually another friend from back there said that she hopes she can come here when everything goes.

i told her that "everybody plucks"... that keeps most of them away

I remember working 60-80 hours per week during college summers, and that STILL didn't get me out of helping around the house!
