Hey there fellow SS members!

We love running "Official" polls where members can vote and express their opinions on a variety of topics. This is a way for our members to discuss these topics, and also allows us to learn more about the views of our members.

And, come on, polls can be really fun and entertaining! ;)

So, to make our SS polls more personalized, we are encouraging all of you to suggest some poll topics that we can convert into an Official SS Poll.

For example, here's a recent "Official" poll:
Official Poll: What is your motivation to be more self-sufficient?
Are you guys up for this? Come on, let's get the ball rolling. What are some ideas you'd like to see us start as official polls?

How about the best meat animals for small areas? Or, the best breeds of chickens for eggs, meat or dual purposes? Best type of dairy goat?

How about whose ready to fire Old Man Winter already? ;)
I like the above two suggestions. (Wannabe is obviously a funster.)

Not sure exactly how polls will fit with what I want to say, but...

From my perspective (do I seem like an old-fashoned broken record?), we are doing pretty well in this online community participating in (and hence encouraging) discussions about gardens, farm animals, and food prep & preservation. Deb has made good suggestions for livening up the subjects.

No homestead (or even suburban or city home) exists or functions without the infrastructure - the shelters, the vehicles, the equipment, the water, the electrical wiring (and needed electricity itself), and possibly the greenhouses, outdoor sheds, and all that.

Can a poll help with encouraging more discussions about these sorts of things, and how investments of time, personal energy, skills, (and, yes, money spent judiciously) can improve our situations?

Not sure what the poll questions would be. :hu

The drought in CA and possible impact at the grocery stores this year, while not necessarily are poll question situation, should provide fodder for strategies to mitigate for those still using the local marketplaces.

What changes are you making in your homesteading paradigm to adapt for the increasingly severe weather patterns?
