One minute, nothing. Just as I stepped outside, to lead Ice Cream into the barn before it hit, it hit. DS had come along, to help. Well, we made it to the barn, after a while. DS is petrified, I am trying to figure out what to do - the wind went from 0 to way to much in about 5 seconds, the rain was horizonal and I could hear small branches from the huge oak tree beside the barn getting ripped off and skiddering across the roof. I realize I am an idiot. I look out the window, watch lightening streak across the sky and seem to touch ground right between our house and the neighbors! I tell DS I am going to open the door, and I want him to run for the house, don't look back, don't worry about me. I figure I will open the door just after lightening has struck, allowing him time, but as I watch, lightening is streaking through the sky at millisecond intervals
We are both soaked and the branches hitting the metal roof of the barn are making DS freak out even more. I count to three, open the door, and he runs. I can't even see him 3 feet from the door. I step out carefully, in my flip flops, and do the Ozzy shuffle towards the house. My feet feel like they are sinking into the earth, I can't see because the rain is beating my face and whipping my soaked hair into my eyes. I shout for Ice Cream one last time, then head for the back of the house. Before I can reach the back 'porch' I am ankle deep in water. As I stumble towards the patio door, DS yanks it open and I slog inside. I grab a towel for each of us and, after wiping the streaming water off my face, I go to the door and look. There is Ice Cream, out in her pasture munching away as the rain pounds away and the lightening turns the sky to day time
She could care less about the storm! Crazy cow! I risk my LIFE, and my son's LIFE, and there she is, eating away like it's a beautiful sunny day!
). Once things calm down a bit, I check the radar. It WAS a little, tiny green spot on radar. As it hovered over our location, it exploded into an ugly, purple storm, expanded to cover at least two counties, then moved to the east. I see much more, and larger, storms moving across Lake Michigan towards us. Lots of ugly purple, ringed by red, then by yellow. I need DS to go to bed before these next storms hit. I suggest we hit the hay. DS is wired for sound, so I finally calm him down and crawl into my bed at 4am :/ Heard thunder, saw lightening, but forced myself back to sleep. Ah, blissful sleep. This morning I checked on Ice Cream (she was fine, laying in the shade under one of the trees, chewing her cud

Yeah, sad part is, I grew up on a farm full of cows, I know better! Just acting foolish because she's my little princess, I guessWannabefree said:Wow sounds like a bad storm sis! Glad you two were okay! Cows don't give a rat's hiney, they just want grass![]()
The storms that rolled through here last night were just finishing up over there, so the baby boy had to ride INSIDE the truck with DH. Hubby said the little guy is quite gassy
That'll make for a long ride home!
Glad I'm not w/him!
Wish I could upload pix :/ Ice Cream took to him right away. We worried, because we have them sharing everything that had been just hers, but she's great about it! Might be that he looks like he could be her calf, he's so much smaller than her. He went right over to her, 'checked for something to drink' (hey, he's only 4 months and hasn't been off his mom that long), then settled right in! When I went out to give Ice Cream her treat, I took a small handful out in a bucket for him. They looked so adorable, standing there eating side by side

Although I happen to be one of those idjits that gets super-excited about storms...the closer and louder, the better...but I ain't right!
