Both those in business and those in politics have the same reason for their conspiricies. The reason is money. Some in business want to pile up as much money as they can and some in politics do as well. The people in business use the politicians to enact laws that give them an advantage in creating their pile and the politicians use the lobbiests representing businesses to create their pile. When this happens. . . We Get Piled On! Many times these conspiracies go both ways.

I have written my representatives in Washington on other issues, until I think my fingers will bleed. The emails that I receive back make it clear that they or their staff don't even read them, most of the time. Their votes are predictable and do not represent what I want from my representatives. In all fairness, Vermont is a very liberal state and since I am a conservative, I rarely see eye to eye with my representatives in Montpelier and Washington.

Hi, I'm new to this site--great site! I have been following this subject for quite awhile. Logic tells me that if an organic farmer has his fields contaminated with GM crops, he should sue Monsanto, not the other way around. The organic farmer has spent years and money to be organic. Not easy. The latest article I read listed Monsanto, DuPont, and Novartis in the top 10 seed companies that now control about one third of the $23 billion worldwide seed trade--that may have been in the Horticulture magazine. I think all of this tinkering with agriculture will simply drive citizens to continue but underground. Sadly, IMO the general population has no clue about any of this.

The problem is that Monsanto is so huge and has deep, deep pockets, and the average organic farmer is small and doesn't have millions of dollars to fight. It is just disgusting. A neighbor from where I grew up lost to Monsanto when bees cross-pollinated his fields. They sued him and won. Said he stole their patented genetic material. Judges often follow the letter of the law rather than common sense or the spirit of the law.

freemotion, you are so right. Common sense is dead. The article also said that the 1980 U. S. Supreme Court ruled: ... can patent a life form on the basis of genetic coding. Anyone who grows a patented and genetically modified variety without holding a license from the patent holder can be sued. I thought Novartis was just a pharmaceutical company. Our people are too far removed from the farm, I think.

I have been against NAIS ever since I read an article 2 years ago about cumpulsory registration for ALL animals, which would include my dogs, cats, chickens and horses. Don't remember which periodical--some Illinois Equine monthly--apparently this has been the wish of Monsanto and Merck for at least one decade. They are just biding their time until they can garner enough political support to push through their agenda.

I KNOW that we have had political rants on all 4 sites, and I DON'T want to start another. Just please understand...it is vital that our Federal Government diminish in power. NO political parties have shown me in my 52 years on the planet that they desire this. I don't believe that we have had a time where Americans needed to be involved in what our representatives are doing since the American Revolution. We cannot be like Daniel Boone, always moving west and away from his fellows to pursue our own individual passions. We have to be both citizen and watchdog now, calling our govenment on EVERY power grab.

I say it's high time we clean house.
