Sufficient Self's Bible Study Group

If one doesn't have the money or items to donate there is always the option of donating a little time. It all adds up and has impacts far past that which we ever see.

We've been trying to do little things to pay it forward.

The car that was given to us 3 months ago, we have given to another family who needed it since we were able to buy a new(er) car. I can tell you that little family was thrilled!

We budgeted money to shop for 3 kids for Share A Christmas. I am selfishly going to put out there that shopping for those three kids was MY Christmas gift - the first child was my gift to myself and the second two children to shop for were DH's gifts to me :) Pretty good Christmas if you ask me! :) I have to say, too, that being able to do this has been on my Christmas Wish list for years.

We also donated a couple brand new toys to our local branch of Toys for Tots.

Over a year ago I took the idea of Baskets of Hope to our church and they've given out several baskets. I plan to go buy some things to add to baskets, too, because last year at Christmas A LOT of baskets were handed out - although our church has worked hard to try to donate at least 1 basket every month to a needy family.

I'm also working on going through the clothes Squeakers has already outgrown. Usually I donate my no longer needed (or what I thought would no longer be needed) baby items to a program called Wellspring. This year I have a friend and 2 cousins all expecting baby girls - two due in January and 1 due in March. So I am sharing what Squeakers outgrows and no longer needs among them. :)

I do really enjoy being in a position to help others now. I think it's what I craved the most when E and I were struggling - to be in a position where WE could be doing the helping instead of others feeling we needed the help.

But we still did little things before even when there wasn't much money. (Ok we're not RICH now financially, but we're better than before) We have always shared us surplus garden produce with family and friends, especially with my Aunt who wants a garden but her property doesn't have a good spot for a garden. We've always given of our time to help our elderly neighbors or other neighbors who needed help.

Way to go Aly :woot It is a gift in itself when you are able to give. We usually do Operation Christmas Child boxes, but haven't the funds this year and I miss it!!!! Hopefully though, we will still be able to find multiple other ways to give this season :) It's funny, the more you give, the more you want to give! Blessings to you all :hugs

Just a little bit of a news flash here. My operation is scheduled for 1/20/12. Don't have the time yet. OK, back to your regularly scheduled discussion.
