Monday March 14th
Wow, what a week.
I find its hard t tear myself away from the news. So much devastation. One can't help but to be sad and sorry for the losses in Japan.
Prayer to them!!!
Hummm Let's see what up around here
I am feeling much better. I did end up going to the doctors. I received the Z pack 5 day antibiotics, and emergency inhaler and a prescription cough pil to help me sleep. I must say the last item didn't work at all.
My dh went and picked up another full load of composted manure for me. I finally got the squash bed amended, planted and fenced off so the chicken and turks can't get to it.
I am also trying something new. I laid out some industrial weed fabric on the outside of my new fence. Inside is where the poultry lives. I lined the inside bottom 2 feet with some of that green coated chicken wire. Then outside I made a nice neat row/pile of compost. I Planted several kinds of climbing and pole beans on the fence. I hope it works.
I gave in a put my teeny tiny tomato plants in the ground the other day. Their growth has stunted and I don't have much hope for them. I figure if they grow in the bed then they should be ok. If not I will pull them and buy plants. Not what I wanted but I can't have no tomatoes 2 years in a row.
I also planted more carrots, beets, lettuces, cucumbers, leaks and cabbage. You should see this cabbage head in my garden. Not diet this year. Remember the holey one from last year. This one is a volunteer, I think. I don't remember planting it. Anyways Its gorgeous.
Kids are all good. They spent the weekend working on school reports and picking grubs from my manure pile. How fun is that? It was great to see all 3 having so much fun with nothing but bugs. Hey what kinda bug is a grub anyways???
First turkey is due to hatch some chickens this week. Not sure if its going to work. We will see.
Second turkey is due to hatch turkeys next week. And I have another broody chicken. I might let her set. I have not sold any eggs for a couple weeks so I have plenty.
We are heading for the desert in a couple weeks. Its going to be my b day. I imagine it will be some family and friends. Should be nice weather.
When I get back the meaties will be due to arrive a week or so later.

That will be a new experience.
Well not much else going on. Just watching the jet stream and wondering if I need to give the family iodine.
Does anyone know if their are ill effects of taking it "just in case"?? I was also thinking about covering my veggie beds with plastic for those few days the jet stream is upon us. The only thing is these nuclear events keep happening. The venting of steam. So what was going to be an initial exposure on Thurs and Fri now has the potential to last a while. I wish I had a Geiger counter. Yes I know that sounds odd but my dh thought I was off for having the iodine pills in the first place.
You know what kinda bugs me. Is how ill prepared it seems the people of Japan were. I don't mean that to be disrespectful at all. They know they are in a high earthquake zone but it does not sound like anyone had water and food stored. Here in ca my sons school even had us pack a gallon ziplock. With food, juice, gum, jerky klenex note from mommy. Etc... I think all schools in a disaster prone area should do this.
Well got to wash the mud off of me before I go pick up dd from school.
Have a great day.
