ok, i'm completely confused about this book, The Farmstead Egg Cookbook. it looks like a really nice cookbook. i'd love to get it since i've been looking for new and exciting ways to consume all these eggs i'm getting from my hens. but how on earth could this book go for $999?!?!?

yes, it is available from some sellers for around $30, but i repeatedly see it for sale for $100-300 (on several different websites) and one whacko on Amazon is selling it for $999. i don't even think i'd pay $1000 for Julia Child to come back from the dead, give me a cooking lesson, and hand me a signed first edition copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking!!!

has anyone used this book? is it worth $30? can you explain the insanity?

I honestly have no explanation. It looks like it's out of print, but that doesn't explain why it's so expensive. I get most of my recipes free from allrecipe. The only recipes that I pay for, are from Cooks Illustrated. Yes it's unnecessary, but I love that silly magazine. No advertisements, and a whole article to explain what they did and why. (And I still don't pay as much for a year subscription as a USED copy of that book.)

Are you kidding??!? I've got that book, I wonder why it's so expensive - it's a nice little egg cookbook, nothing spectacular, from what I can see. :hu

All I can think of is with the growing popularity of keeping a few hens, along with the fact that so few people really know how to cook, there is a demand for this book and others like it. Personally, I'd pass. You can get almost all you need online these days. Almost.

I've seen that every now and then with books. I've got a book on self sufficient living, out of print, can't remember the name. Used copies in bad condition were going for hundreds on Amazon, etc. I happened to mention it to my librarian friend. She found me a copy that had been withdrawn from their shelves and GAVE it to me.
I do not understand why these books go up like that! Amazon has the egg cookbook used starting at $45.

You get those type of prices a lot with out of print books. There's no rational for it, other than the seller hoping to find someone desperate enough for it. I have a book that my son likes, and was trying to find a copy to give to him. I found four listed on Amazon, three were priced $9 - $16, one was listed at $900. Just one idiot, looking to meet another. IMAO

it's just so hard for me to understand. i bought a first edition of The Little Prince from Amazon a couple years ago for $18... and it was in nearly perfect condition. i've had it appraised at about $300.

how could one person sell such a wonderful book so cheap when another is selling a cookbook for a grand? people are strange.

i might shell out $30 for it, but that would be my limit.

I love that book. I have my high school paperback copy in French and won't ever part with it!
As for the cookbook, the highest price for a new copy on Amazon is $199. Lowest for used is $45. Still better be a darn good cookbook for that!
This is the book I got for free from my library friend:
