Aren't the store version made with pinto beans?

We use home-grown black beans. Are there any significant differences between using different varieties?
We use black as well. I like them much better :thumbsup

That do taste very different, IMO.

Sometimes I want pinto beans, but usually prefer black. Most places I've lived you can get both kinds refried in cans at the store.

I love black beans -- gonna try growing some this year. :)

My sister makes refried beans, and she cooks hers, then adds bacon grease and mashes them in the pot with a potato masher.

Sort of depends on the consistency you want - if you want smooth paste, or if you like bits of bean in it.

I do mine overnight in the crock pot. I love that I can be cooking in my sleep! :)
