Greetings Neighbours! Facebook has competition! Been joining the BYC, and BYH groups and was most pleasantly surprised at finding this site.
I am a Native (aka First Nations) Grandma, have white hair and green eyes and I was born and raised in a family that believed ( guess we had to) in frugal and self sufficient living. As a child, I never knew we were "poor" because I had a full stomach, and comfortable clothes, and what we couldn't buy we made. My Grandma was the most creative person I knew, and long before there was such a thing as "recycling" we were doing it! My Dad carved so many things, including intricate chess sets, from scrap wood, he also could knit a sweater faster than anyone else I knew, and did embroidery and made me my first quilt. My Grandma and Mom could sew a fashion they saw at the movies, or on TV. My entire family had skills/gifts and encouraged all of us to explore our own. Flip forward in time and here I am, in a wheelchair and have done so many different things in my life, I have an opinion on pretty well everything. We live on a small 45 acre farm, 6 people under 1 roof, representing 4 generations. The eldest being "Dad" and the youngest my grandson (13 almost 14 now) we bring a diverse skill set to our home and farm. We have recycled ice-fishing huts into chicken coops, and have 20 laying hens and are raising 50 meat chickens, looking to expand with herd animals, as soon as we get a pole barn up and the fences fixed.
Our interests include : crafting, woodworking , husbandry, auto mechanics, trading, growing indigenous plants for food and medicine, making traditional medicines, cultural practices, fishing, social justice and much, much more.
And BTW before anyone asks me "where is Wendake Gahen"? it is what mainstream folks would call :Central Ontario, Canada....and we call it "home". Looking forward to meeting folks here, I don't bite, maybe growl once in awhile, but I really am friendly....so send out a shout!
Sincerely
LadyCedar
p.s. one of Grandma's favorite sayings "if you can't fix it yourself, you can't afford it!"
