I'm not sure about using the peanut vine hay. I wonder if it would have proper nutrients in it. Usually people buy some type of grass hay or alfalfa hay or a mix of grass/alfalfa. Especially with growing kids, you will want good quality hay.
Although not commonly in use peanut vine hay is a legume, just like alfalfa or clover or peas. The nutrition should be similar to other legume hays. Back in the day LOTS of farmers fed hays that today we would think of as strange. Cow pea and oat hay was very common as was peanut vine hay, which in the South was a double crop since the tops were baled as hay before the main peanut crop was dug.

One thing I would ask about however is if the crop was sprayed and what with. Modern farmers use LOTS of chemicals and I am sure a peanut farmer is no exception. Years ago this was not a problem. If you find peanut hay also compare the prices. You may still be better off with an alfalfa or clover hay.

Thanks all - I think I'll get some (after I find out if they sprayed it) and see how it goes.

1 week from today and I pick them up :weee

:hit kinda bummed this morning - gotta wait another week to get my babies. Talked to our breeder last night and with our lovely crazy weather, our little boy and 1 of the little girls (little black doe) has pneumonia :( The little doe has an issue with her valve not working properly when she drinks milk so I'm not going to get her at all, she is going to stay with the breeder cause she knows what to do and since she doesn't work off farm she can care for her better than I can. It is sad, but since these are my first goats I don't want to start off with one we know has a health problem and do something wrong. So . . . . I'm only gonna end up getting 3 which is a good number to start with.

:weee wooo hoooo ! I'm going to get my babies in the morning :D I am going to bring Onyx home - as she is growing her valve is working better and hopefully she'll be fine. I can hardly wait!
