When I was a kid, my mom took a washcloth, folded it and sewed around the edges to form a pocket or pouch and would fill it with soap slivers. I think she then basted the open edge shut...and I used it in the tub. As a little kid, the soap was forever slipping away from me, but not after that!

I save ours throughout the year and put them in a double boiler on the wood stove in the winter (adding water) and make a new large bar.

I also paste my slivers on to the next bar- they usually stick if I work at it. But, I am intrigued by melting them down into a "new" bar.
