Wannabefree...guess what I got in the mail today!?!?!?!?

congrats on the piggy! hes some cute bacon :P
do you havea processor lined up or will you be butchering him yourself?

Oh, and I know that water container is NOT gonna work, but I was busy when DH took care of that :/

I took my cousin to the dentist, then got the call to pick up that food(300+ pounds of asparagus, and several pounds of spincah and about 100 of grapefruit), then i decided I needed a pig :hu It made sense to ME! So I called around till I found one. I paid $25 for him, will feed him to weight on free food, and pay the butcher $45. So for $70, I think a freezer full o bacon ham and chops...sounds pretty good to me! :D Then I came home, unloaded the food, loaded steel, took it off, came back, am making bread(actually burger buns), have to do 50 more pounds of tomatoes, and make some burgers for supper. Then stick a fork in me, I. am. DONE.

It has been a busy loooooooong day round here.

lined up. IF I have time in August when he's ready for slaughter, then I will help process and get a discounted price, if not, $45 is NOT bad ;)

Sounds like a great deal to me! Wish I could come across a deal like that. But then again, I don't have the room for one.

I just hope the guy was right. That pig has a hernia from where he was castrated and the others squished him before he healed properly :/ It shouldn't hurt the bacon though :P I just wonder if it'll retard his growth any. I guess we'll see. He is happily eating asparagus at the moment. He is all healed up, but looks kinda bad. Nobody else wanted to take him :hu I may get another later, once I know for sure this boy is going to be strong enough and not have any further issues with his erm..sensitive area.

hernia shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont let him get "FAT" normal meaty weight is fine, but excess fat can cause issues in a hernia (so lots of veg, fruit, ect, but watch the corn and bread.
it MAY heal up on its own depending on how big it is.

ill be getting the name of your butcher at that price lol. hoping for pigs next spring but there much too big to do myself...

Thanks for the advice Pinky! The butcher is a preacher man in Corinth, MS. Dunno if you'd want to take them that far, but I can get you his name and number or help you find someone closer when the time comes. Someone out in Finger does it too, but I have no idea of their pricing or who, just have heard. It's relatively inexpensive around here though. The young piggy will be munching out on asparagus, tomato ends, and spinach for the next little while so should heal up fine. The other pigs were aggravating him in the pen at the place where I got him, and I think they may have been making it worse. It's nice to know with some TLC he may heal up though :)

I got a tip on some free week old piglets if you might be interested. The farm where they come from kills all the runts at a week old. :rant I'm gonna have to do some investigating to see what it'd take to raise them up, but they're free for the taking if you know the right people. I'll let you know when I find out more.

oh its tempting but id have nowhere for one to live (and im sooo not getting a house pig LOL!)
weeks olds would be on bottle or at very least milk in a pan...
definatly next spring though :D

We have 13 at Dads house, we get one too. They stink, and I am not a piggy fan. But congratulations! One del chick so far.....
