It is truly frightening to me that "experts" are out there telling diabetic people what to eat and it so wrong!
Those "experts" were probably trained by some pharma. company - with their bottom line topmost in their priorities.
They don't want to "cure" anything, they want to maintain the dependance on their drugs.

That part helps me make sense of "why", but sure doesn't help the "scary"!

Dr. Bernstein information...

Diet plan summary
http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/bernsteinsdiabetesdiet/p/bernsteinintro.htm

His history...
"In 1946, at the age of twelve, Richard Bernstein developed type 1 diabetes, and for more than two decades, Bernstein was what he calls, an ordinary diabeticone who dutifully followed doctors orders. Despite his diligence coping with the disease, the complications from his diabetes worsened over the years, and like many diabetics in similar circumstances, he faced death at a very early age as well as poor quality of life. By the time Bernstein reached his thirties, many of his bodys systems began to deteriorate...."

A video on him and how he starts treatment...

She was frightening. She's got living proof sitting next to her and she can say low carb diets are unproven in all seriousness? She's done a good job convincing herself anyway.

Hmmmm.....let's do the math. Diabetes is epidemic in this country. We are told to eat lots of corn and soy and wheat by the USDA, whose job it is to market corn, soy, and wheat. If we tell people with diabetes NOT to eat corn, soy, and wheat.....how will we sell corn, soy, and wheat??? OK, we have to get them to reduce consumption a bit or we will kill our customers....I know! Veg oils! Lots of them, liquid especiallly! Made from corn and soy! Brilliant!

Sheesh. :he Why do I have a headache??? :p

I made a yummy tonight that I think you guys will approve of:

Big plate of steamed broccoli with a cheese sauce I invented on the fly.
The sauce is just a teensy bit of butter, juice of two lemons, and a hunk of white cheddar, all melted together.
It has the yummiest thick texture, and it's very tangy. The Man went back for seconds, that's my measure of whether it's good or not :p

Usually I put on my broc a drizzle of lemony aoili but we lacked the necessary ingredients.

That's all good, traditional fats in there, right?
