Well I guess I am harvesting something after all. I have been picking up acorns for the pigs. We have a lot of oak trees, but I am picking up acorns from just a few trees. The pigs love them and it's free food for them, so why not.

You can eat them as well-as long as you get the tannins out.

DS and I discovered a huge apple tree round the corner from us, that's throwing these tiny, hard little apples on the road. I want to collect some and see if I can interest my mealworm colonies in it. They are going through a lot of potatoes and carrots at the moment. DS tried to eat one and found it unpleasant, but I don't think the bugs would mind :)

I know, but just was never hungry enough to want to try it. Too many other good things to eat that are easier to prepare. But I wonder what acorns would taste like..... :lol:
