What can I do with this??

I thought it might be good to have a thread for this kind of question... My neighbor's have two full sized Ac house units they want gone. They just got new ones for their house. I dont believe the old ones work. So I'm hauling them to my house. I can always scrap them, but does anyone know what I could use them or their parts for? Too dark for pictures but I'll take some tomorrow.

Nothing of much use. Scrap the copper and coils and motors. Keep the wire mesh that surrounds the coils for use around the homestead

Thanks, @Chic Rustler. I've got a bunch of metal already waiting to be scrapped so can add this to it. Here are some pictures anyway in case people have ideas....

save the blower motor assembly. You can put a 120 volt motor in it and have a good fan.

Search the web for a cheap 120 volt 1/3 hp 1075 rpm blower motor and a 7.5 mfd run capacitor. You should be able to get them for $65 or so.

Don't know what type of freon is in those units but if it the old kind R-22 (pre-oboma regulation) people pay big bucks for it. I bet you could get someone pretty easily to come out and recover it - plus pay you for the privlege of doing so.

If the fans spin they are sometimes useful if you (remove them and) box them into a wooden housing and use them for cooling off whatever. They blow pretty good and oftentimes the wiring is really a wire and not a PC board. 110VAC plug in if you add a male prong, normally. Just an idea. These are the ones right underneath the big grate.

Thanks guys! @Nardo , I was thinking about maybe making a fan for the chicken coop for the summer. @CrealCritter I needed that kind of freon for an old Toyota dolphin camper I used to have. It was a great little camper.

I was thinking you could use the fan for something too. Can't think of any other repurposing other than that though.

I was looking at the base. If I remove the fan blade, and put a big basin in there, it might make a great platform for a chicken station. It's the right height. I'd have room to set things like my knife to the side. A flat, easy to clean surface that won't be ruined left outside, a lowered area to drop feathers and guts. It'd be easy to spray with water to clean after. And shelves underneath for storing things until I need them the next time. I could probably find an old butcher block at a restore or thrift shop to place over the hole. I'd just have to cut it to size. Raise it to drop stuff into a bag or basin underneath. Put it over the hole for cutting...

This project is on hold for now. I've got to get the new coop finished, get the garden planted, build new trellises for the grapevines, and sooo much more, but I like the possibilities.
