What did you do in your garden today?

@Hinotori would a short season, plants started early, work? But then, cornmeal is pretty cheap.

That time of year when we all get excited & outdo ourselves -- especially with seed selection quantity😵‍💫

I've bought many gallons of milk for these 3 bottle baby goat kids. Idea crossed.my mind to use them as mini greenhouses to start some pepper & tomatoes plants this year right in their garden spots. I'm still buying more :th

In addition to the garden, I am eyeing the flower bed and potential beds in the front of the house. The existing bed has evergreen shrubs and sand cherries. All of which have been horribly maintained. They are too far gone to be cleaned up even with aggressive pruning.

Since my garden beds should just need a fluff up before planting, this should be doable

So get some short season beans and plant them a week or two earlier. At the worst, you're out a few seeds.

the ones i planted late were pretty short season beans. they usually will start setting pods in 55 days or less. they were planted July 14-15 which gives me 2 months before risk of first frost.

the other issue is that i was planting all my other gardens before this so i was not able to plant that garden sooner (or i would have :) ). i have a lot of garden spaces to weed, keep and plant and they have a fair amount of clay in the soil so i often have to work around the weather and other issues...

I guess if you're buying milk your dairy does haven't kidded yet? Store bought milk isn't cheap when you're buying it in bulk!

Yep. Sadly the couple who have are FF with twins. Another two I'd like to milk have an attitude. Not fighting it. Costly at about $5-6 per day.....after lnext week, down to 2 bottles a day.... :fl 1.5 gal a day now.

Well, they're 2 FB Boer & 1 is 3/4...big eaters!!! And, a month old. They weigh 30+ #ea. One good milker would take care of that. 🤣. No planning. Yah!! They're creepy feeding.

I have about 3 dozen of those. They tend to blow off in our winds here, but they work very well as mini greenhouses if they stay in place. The bottoms also work as saucers to go under plants.

I went outside to plant fava beans, so I took the wild-patch watermelon seeds with me, got them in the ground, walked to the garage to get a shovel to dig clay to make more seed starting mix, fed the fish, walked out without the shovel, went to collect eggs, got the shovel, back to the garage to get a bucket, dug a bunch of clay, the door flew open so I decided to fix that and now it is lunchtime. The soil will have to wait. The favas are still in my pocket.

Follow my continuing adventures as spring advances!
