What did you do in your garden today?

I should finish up adding dirt to one of the raised beds today. It's supposed to be hot - heat index possibly in triple digits. Ugh. One more bed to get filled after that.

I'm removing the old collards and will need to figure out what to put there. Maybe sweet potatoes - they thrive in heat. Kinda interested in the leaves because supposedly they can be used as a spinach substitute. I can't grow spinach here for some reason so this might make a good alternative.

Got some weed whacking done around the beds too. Slowly but surely making progress...
Triple digits??? You must be alot closer to the equator than me! Here we have 65ish today, but it was 50 yesterday. Some people I know farther north still have snow!

I'm trying sweet potato this year, im curious to see how it does. I'm not sure if our heat will be long enough to get a good crop, but even a small crop plus the greens and flowers would be good i think.
I recently found out about "lambs quarters" though. Aka fat hen, or goose foot. It grows everywhere here, but it tastes like a mild and sweet spinach, yet has about double the nutrients (yes all the same ones plus!) and grows twice as fast! You might look into that if a spinach alternative is your goal. Our kids love it.

My sunchokes did not make it through winter. They didn't rot, the rodents dug down and ate them all. Picked up some more to plant. I think I could manage to till a 10x10 area later this week
Thats sad I have been wondering about sunchokes, did you like them?
I thought my new asperigus had all died from our crazy winter, but now 9 out of 10 have sprouted so I'm pleased.

Anyone tried growing and drying all your own beans? About how many plants do you need per person for a twice a week serving??

I couldn't find the old LDS document that listed suggested storage amounts for staples per person, but I found this

It appears two or three asparagus crowns died. What stalks were growing are now dead.

Only harvested a fraction of my sunchokes from last year. The bed is covered with new growth from what I left untouched
