we had lunch here with one of my brother's and a nephew stopping over. baked potatoes with cheese, bacon, sour cream, tuna casserole, blueberry muffins that Mom made a few days ago and cole slaw. all of it good. :) i doubt i'll eat too much this evening but some cinamon rolls might be checked out soon as i get up.

it's been a nice day to get caught up on naps/sleep. snowing out a bit but not supposed to be too much accumulation... we'll see...

Nope. We read the Jungle in school. I think that's a big part of what ruined any potted meats for my class. I don't like lunch meats either. Or hot dogs.

Nice sausage in a natural casing is good

yes, but to me they are all just different versions of the same basic ingredients... i'm glad though that we have a local business that makes ones i do like but i try to avoid eating a lot of them. unfortunately Mom could live off hotdogs and stuff like that and so as a kid and into the teens we ate a lot of those and Mom still likes them from time to time. i've tried to back off eating a lot of them myself, but once a month a chunk of braunschweiger is ok and then Mom will get some kind of lunchmeat.

just by chance the other day Mom said she'd like to have some pickle and bologna (which is ground up and mixed together with some onion) but she'd just bought a chunk of braunschwieger so i said that i didn't want to do that this month but we could do it next month.

the last time we made a large batch of pickle and bologna we put it in the freezer and we used some homemade pickles and they weren't very good and the entire batch was spoiled and ruined and given the price per lb of bologna these days (imagine that being expensive now! eek!) it was a rather expensive loss along with all the time involved. so i've tried since then to downsize the batches and not to have them in the freezer because i don't want to risk losing that much $ again. so we've not had it that often (and also because i just don't want to eat that much bologna or hotdog similars as we had been before - i want more veggies, beans, fruits, and things that look like food to me and then here or there some ground chuck or a chuck roast that works for me much better than chicken or pork).

sorry, i'm rattling on here, it's been funny this morning, as i've been so super chatty with Mom too and normally in the morning the last thing i want to do is talk.

typing at least is quieter. :)

as a bit of other humor though, one of my earliest cooking experiments was fried bologna and toothpaste. nope. not very good, but then i tried ketchup and that was much better.
