I want to build....eventually....another shed for a larger coop. I want to make it with a slanted roof made of corrugated metal, very simple, like a three-sided shed but with four sides, a door, and a couple of windows. Probably on skids with a dirt floor. Smallish, maybe 6x8' or so.

Can't find plans! Everything seems to be for fancy sheds. I need something SIMPLE and easy and cheap to build! Something I could do myself, without any experience. I see these sheds everywhere in various sizes as I drive around....yet can't find plans!

I just got an email ad from MEN and they had an open pole shed plan...for.... $175! Good grief! I'm hoping to build it for not much more than that if I can find some salvaged materials for parts of it.

Where can I find plans for such a basic design? I don't even know what it is called to do a reasonable search. Help?

(Waiting for pics of yours, Wannabefree!)

See if you can check out the book Storey's Guide to Country Living nice free plans in there ;) He gives a materials list with proper measurements and everything :D Also, we got out whole shed for free, we just had to go tear it down and reassemble/tweak it to suit our needs, and we have enough free wood left over for a couple stanchions. DH is making a smaller stanchion for a local lady for $75 with FREE WOOD! :woot See if someone has an old shed they want torn down and hauled off. Never know ;)

It cost us about $10 worth of nails.

The Cooperative Extension Service has them available online. I didn't see any fees for any of them, so far. Free plans for things that will amaze you.
I will let you sort through the options yourself, since they have lots of variety.
BTW- They also have plans for a variety of barns, storm cellars, root cellar, Official" milking houses, cisterns, greenhouses, cabins, beehives, smokehouses, workbenches, produce stand buildings, etc.

Here's the links:

Hope you don't run out of ink printing a million. :)

Sounds like what you want to build is a lean-to. I don't have my glasses on right now, (can't find them) but if you google lean-to plans, a ton of sites come up. I was trying to look at them, but since I don't have my glasses on, I gave up. :/

I am building a new coop right now. The best way to describe what I am doing, would be to call it a monocoque style. In other words, I am building the walls out of plywood, and basically just framing them with 2x2's that simply give you a way to fasten the plywood pieces together.
I'll try to get out with the camera and snap you off a couple of pictures. My coop is on wheels, but would still work great as a stand alone style of building. The best part is, it is CHEAP to build, even with all new materials, AND, you really don't need any plans. Let the voices in your head tell you how to build it. ;)

I KNEW SKR8PN heard voices. I just KNEW it! :gig

Keep in mind Free, rats and other varmints will dig up through a dirt floor, especially if you feed your chickens in there.

There are loads of free plans out there. I might have some if you need them. Many are from the extension services - Mississippi and Oklahoma have good info and probably have plans.

It is funny you mentioned MEN. About fifteen minutes ago, my DH showed me where they were selling plans for a wooen box to hold remotes - for $20!!!

Here ya go Free! I hope these give you an idea or two you can use.
This coop is 4' wide and 8' long. I made the entire coop so it uses half sheets of plywood. The door is an automatic one I built using a drapery motor, with a timer and it is battery operated with a solar charger for the battery. I still have to complete the side skirts that you see leaning against the garage, and build a portable/removable run to attach to the end of the coop.

Thanks!!! Lotsa good ideas! My hope is to build a frame and a roof from purchased materials this summer, then see what comes up for the rest by fall. I have a coop space in my barn now, but I would like a bigger coop for some more serious chicken raising, and maybe get the turkeys to go in there, too.

That could give me room for one or two more goats..... :p
