i hadn't dusted/vaccuumed off the other futon in my room for about 10 years, but yesterday morning after getting all my flats stacked together and put up in their corner on top of the book shelft that meant it was cleared off for the first time since last summer, so i went for it and got it done. also went around and cleaned all the dead bugs out of the rails at the bottom of the patio doors while i had the vac out... it works a lot faster than the wet toilet paper method... :)

maybe get washing machine fixed tomorrow sometime. this has been dragging on for so long... *sigh* asked them to have a plan for getting a replacement machine ready so we can get that going if this wiring harness replacement doesn't work, but they said they can only do something if the manufacturer says the machine is unrepairable. Mom is having canaries... last week she went out and tried to find something to replace this one with cash in hand and they couldn't find one at any of big box stores that will work for her and the space we have. it's not been a fun time...

we have two killdeer nests going at the moment. one out front with the ones that make a lot of noise and another out back inside the fence with the calmer ones.

i don't need to do anything out front most of the time so it is ok.

i hope i'm around when the ones out back hatch because it sure makes it nicer to have them know me right from the start - that is, if they hatch, so far she's already lost one batch of eggs to the raccoons that was outside the fenced gardens. :(

oh yes, also heard the catbird for the first time today, but it could have been back for a bit because i've not been outside much the past several days.

planted four small rows of beans, mostly Purple Dove and a few outcrosses mixed in to provide yet more potential mayhem. rained last night and this morning.

next week forecast is looking good and hope for no more hard frosts.

i had to do some weeding of the pathway behind the fenced gardens because a critter (likely a groundhog) was scraping the gravel away from the fence and rocks along the bottom.

plus some daylilies were coming up through the gravel (one of the reasons why i wanted to remove them was that they really were aggressive spreading out and getting into the pathways around that garden and it is a ton of work to get them out once they get anyplace). after three years of aggressive cutting back and digging this year i only had a few dozen sprouts coming up through the garden itself that i was planting beans into, but also that pathway was sprouting plants up through breaks in the black plastic and in the rocks along the edge and... if next year i can only see a few here or there then i've probably gotten it done as long as i keep after whatever tries to pop up.

beautiful lilac bush is out, first time in years it hasn't gotten frozen out. i should get a few pictures while i can. oh, drats, battery in camera is drained, recharge in progress...
