Wifezilla's Rampage - Weekend Update w/ pics

She is so spunky and worked so hard to get to the point where she could eat and drink on her own I couldn't cull her. She is becoming quite spoiled :P

There is a semi-local processor that will process poultry for $3 each. I will just raise them up and take them to "freezer camp" in fall. I am thinking of running a craigslist ad when I am ready to go asking people if they have excess roosters they want to get rid of. May as well fill the bus to camp before I drive out there! :D

I am in awe at your cleverness. (Is that a word? If not, I just made it one.)

Twister is still hanging in there. One of her brothers out with broody momma is not. Found him dead in the hutch. No clue why he died since he was big and healthy. Hubby's theory is that mom heard a noise, spazzed out and trampled him. That totally sounds like Lexi :P I think she is going to be permanently removed from broody duty after this clutch. It is obvious she didn't rotate eggs well AGAIN and had a staggered hatch. From the size of her ducklings, I would guess they hatched over a 3 day period. Plus 4 out 9 are either dead or disabled. NOT good odds. Lexi, you're FIRED!

To make sure she didn't accidentally kill the only remaining female in her clutch, I took the little girl and put her in an outdoor pen with a brooder light and her sister Twister. Since Twister is named after a game I told hubby we needed to name the sister after a game too. I gave him some suggestions and he picked....
PARCHEESI :D

It aint easy being Parcheesi. She cried for mom all day, rested a little and cried for mom again starting at 4 am. Yikes. At least she was distracted enough that she didn't have time to pick on Twister for being disabled. 'Cheesi did take a few pokes at Twister but Twister poked back so they are actually starting to snuggle together. Twister seems to be remembering she is a DUCK and not a fluffy yellow human now. That was our hope since Twister was becoming WAY too spoiled and wanted to be held all the time. My schedule and patience level does not allow that. She still falls over sometimes, and last night, with the fireworks and boom noises coming from the neighborhood, she even got stuck on her back for a while. Obviously stress makes her condition worse. I upped her vitamins a little and she is doing much better. The sisters are in the shade next to each other with their legs kicked back quietly peeping to each other now. Must be gossiping about the cats :D

Despite the heat I did get some more gardening stuff done. I have 4 beds that had NOTHING growing in them. Poking around I noticed WAY more bug activity than normal, so I poured soapy water all over the beds, added more topsoil where I wanted to plant, and covered the rest of the bed in a thick layer of rotted straw. Then I placed wire cages (made out of milk crates and other various items) over the planting spots. I still need to surround the seed holes with crushed oyster shell. Yes, it sounds like overkill, but if I keep the bugs, the squirrels, the hail and the cats away from plants for a week or so, I may actually get something going! I still have 2 more non productive beds I need to plant, but it looks like the flea beetles have gotten in there so I need more DE first. Then I will plant kale and mini cabbages.

I have been taking photos, but the camera battery died. Once I get charged up I will give you all a garden tour.

Yeh... Hail season cometh lol. Sometimes the hail is so loud, I have to log out of work until it passes :P
