Your Chicken House

How big is your chicken house? And how many do you hold in it? Im pondering 2011 chicks right now.

Wow! That is a LOT of chickens!!

We have an old pig barn, and our main room is approximately 20 x 20, 80 hens, about 10 turkeys.

I have a 10x20 shed that currently holds 20 chickens and will hold 27 when my last 7 are old enough to go in with the big girls.

Ours is 8x16 and we have 19 at the moment. We'll be adding a few in the Spring, probably about 5 more.

They say 2 to 3 square foot per bird. But like others have said, if your free ranging and all their doing is sleeping in there then things change. There is a number on linear inches of roosting space as well. But my birds all sit on the top roost and squish together anyways.

I have an 8 x 10 with usually 30 is birds. It seems empty most of the time.

The 3 turkeys have a 5 x 7 house.

That makes me wonder if I have my measurements right. 80 birds are not even close to crowded in our barn, and they're only inside about 3 months of the year.
