Well, it's been a day! Since I'm picking up trailer insert tomorrow we needed to do something about the lack of lights on the lowboy. Not that the trailer didn't have lights - they just didn't work. Cowboy at his best I guess...maybe pigs....maybe just dry rot? But the wires were broken in several places, hanging loose and just a general mess. So, DH (who is usually not a 'handy' guy) re-wired the trailer!!! (with just a little help from me when it looked like it was gonna get dark before it got finished) But, I have working lights again - woo hoo! Now I can get it inspected and get tags for it and be mostly legal again!
Sold a pig today too....and still have that guy who is supposed to get two of them in a few days. YAY! I'll get one of the boars butchered one way or another cuz once I've got the trailer I'll be able to take him to the processor since I think it's just not gonna get cool enough for home butchering...and my busy neighbor isn't getting any less busy these days. He's been out of town all weekend, and I know he's gonna be gone all of spring break to. Time to take matters in my own hands and get this taken care of one way or another.
Went ahead and separated the piglets from their mama's today. They are way overdue for weaning! Geeze the first batch was born on 11.22.16 and the next set on 12.16.16 if I remember correctly. I'll bet the mama's will appreciate the break - or not - lol. They didn't show any signs of trying to wean them on their own and they've held their body condition very well. Maybe I should just let 'em stay together - sow's milk is free protein, right? I dunno, I'll sleep on it and decide in the morning.
Time for a nice relaxing glass of wine!
