What did you do in the garden today?

Just scrape the seeds out with a big spoon, fill with butter & brown sugar, bake @ 400 about an hour until tender - Simply Delicious.

Rain, rain & MORE RAIN!!! Last 3 days & next 3 days! I'm almost in NC & they are getting pounded as well.

But that makes our gardens (and WEEDS and GRASS) grow. Glad I got all pastures topped last week because they are going into overwhelming, again. Too early to save for winter here.

I picked 6 more butternuts this AM, a couple nice slicing tomatoes and got excited to see the TINY lima sets on that row of beans. I didn't plant a lot, either variety or number of plants, this year but what is there is WOWing me. Those butternut are thru the fences, all over the correct side, also. Loaded with fruits & still blooming. :thCould be my well composted manures in this soil....ya think? :) What was planted is doing so well. Makes me think Fall things will also, if I can get it planted!!

Bad part about this through fence thing is that I can't now let the goats into this surrounding grass -- which has been WELL manured over the years -- which grows thick & tall. Either cut or let a couple mini horses on it. They don't want to eat the squash vines. :p

Man everything you got growing is looking great - your gonna have a ton of butter beans.

This is the first time I tried to go butternut squash. They are delicious and prolific.
 
Great looking garden! Mine is at the done stage, but the weeds and grass are set on GO! I just ran out to take the sheep out of the garden and back to their night pen. Thunder, lightening and here comes MORE RAIN!

I see you mulch with paper feed bags, they sure help keep the grass down!

And cardboard boxes. I often get large ones from working and those large slabs really help. BUT -- the garden area I am using is an old round pen. Over 1/2 needs mowing & That grass by the squash plants & cardboard is what I have there! Thick, heavy, from hay seeds I'm sure. It's on 50' across...but works.
 
Since I am eating cooked butternut for breakfast, I thought...hmmm tastes good, wonder about nutrition? We all know that more color generally translates into more good things in the fruit/veg. What a powerhouse this is.... and the eggplant I love, is soooo satisfying when eaten -- look at the info I very quickly found. Some of the antioxidants help with blood pressure, arthritis, and lots of other issues. BACK TO you are what you eat. :) Lucky people who grow their own and reap the benefits of FRESH & unaltered foods. Excellent fiber & low carbs in both. One has high something, helps with eyesight.
