No, not taking for meat (necessarily) -- just "taking" them. :love I bought my farm(s) for my animals. If I only wanted a garden, I'd have only an acre or two. Even with the work and expense, just love to have them.

I do eat meat but, find I eat a LOT less of it now. Food choices.

but it doesn't fit their agenda, so they ignore those studies.

Uh, almost vegetarian here. No sane eco friendly person is trying to take away your cows. The 'beef' is with the big industries who ignore sustainable land practices.

Who said anything about sanity? There is definitely an agenda. Control the food systems, control the populace.

No, no sane person would. But haven't you heard of the vegan group that steals animals from farms? I have vegan friends who appreciate what we do on our farm, but there are a lot of people (like all of PETA) who think we shouldn't own animals. Crazies.

I'm just going to leave it at PETA bashing and not go into the politician who wants to regulate cow farts;)

I'm with you on PETA bashing. The regulation of dog and cat breeding for home use is absolutely ridiculous, at least here in Maine. So much so, that they are importing dogs and puppies from southern states to stock the local humane societies here. And all puppies and kittens are neutered before being allowed to be adopted at the age of 10 weeks.

I wonder what those PETA folks wear on their feet? And if any animal protein additives passes their lips???

Maybe PETA could provide and administer birth control to deer, coyote, possum, etc. THAT would be helpful!:D

I am for humane treatment of those animals raised for food and at slaughter. Don't see meat eating stopping anytime soon. IN FACT -- if they made more strides with stopping the over eating of cakes and donuts, it would be a more beneficial effort. :clap I love a good donut, piece of cake or pie but, you NEVER see my grocery cart (or home cabinets) with more of those things than healthy foods.

Being in stores doing demos, I see hundreds of carts go by my station each day, several days a week. I can pick the "owner" of the cart based on what I see in that cart -- from a lineup of people! Yep, you are what you eat!!:old

Not to switch directions, well, yeah, okay...

Thinking of rationing, the latest hubbub about the border issues (avacodos!)got me to think. What would happen to this country if folks had to go back to only eating fruits and vegetables when in season locally? I remember my grandfather loving oranges at Christmas because that was when they were available. Heck, I remember when getting fresh orange juice from Florida in just 48 hours was a big ad campaign! Lol

The WWII rationing stories made me think of multiple tales of hiding food during the American Civil War. I just don't think this upcoming generation could deal with the hardship

In the 40's we would visit my uncle his wife always had lots of tasty butter. They had no refrigerator or Ice cabinet, so the butter was soft. She extended it with canned milk. She passed about 5 years ago and anytime you went to her house, she had her extended butter. We loved it and with the price of butter today, I plan to start making extended butter. Will start out with a cube and add canned milk till it's light and fluffy. Hope it saves us lots of money as my hubby eats bread on his butter.

That's funny!

Not sure if you've seen it - but the first post in this thread is for butter that you extend with canned milk and gelatin. I made it the other day and it's pretty darn good!
