Exciting... flower just starting on the tomatoes 👍 tomato leaves look good, even with huge amounts of rainfall. I don't think this new garden spot will need any fertilizer or amendments, this will be the first time in a long time I haven't needed to admend my garden soil. I guess decades of grazing animals worked well \o/

Do you prune your tomatoes? I have not done much of that in the past, but may be more aggressive this year.
By pruning you mean breaking off the side shoots? I used too, but I don't any more. Because I just give them lots of room to grow and the side shoots seem to help shade the soil, so less weeds.

When I did break off the side shoots, I would train them vertically by wrapping the main vine around baling twine counter clock wise. Kind of like how you would grow a grape vine. The vines can get very long this way.

Tomatoes are fun to grow and tasty 😋

Dug out the old push rotary cultivator I got from my grandparents. Other than dead grass clumps getting stuck, that thing hoed the rows fast with the blade down and tines up. I really need to clean it up some as it has a bit of rust. It worked just fine, though.

Why yes I was feeling lazy and didn't want to hoe today. I am also plotting on putting the harness on the german shepherd and having her pull it for me to make it faster.

I don't think "old push rotary cultivator" and "lazy" belong in the same reply. I do have just the dog for the job though. But you gotta feed him.

You can see where I need to finish tilling. That will square it up. Near left corner needs a quick till again, then the corn goes in. Most of the plants are too small to see in the picture.

It's not huge but is big enough for us this year. That's the silkie pens behind it that are 50 feet long. The garden is about 60 feet. I did till a bit past where the pens had been. The deep side will be about 55 feet.
