I could not agree more. Agriculture is hard work, usually uncomfortable work, and often dangerous. Most Americans are so far removed that they have no idea. Big Ag has been unstable, too many eggs in too few baskets. Too much monoculture. Too much petroleum. The whole thing can come crashing down in so many ways. It has always scared me.

that is why i do seed saving plus seed swaps and getting a gardening group going. there haven't been any really younger people yet at the meetings but maybe eventually...

We know this unnecessary war is sadly killing people...but, an off shoot....not getting political, just factual....is that much of our grains are imported from both Russia and Ukraine. Another major thing is fertilizer from Russia and/or ingredients to make it.

USA imports huge amounts of both. Then there's the bird flu issue, gas/diesel cost, trucker shortages, plants closed, pandemic workers staying home.....plus other stuff!

Have you hugged your chicken today?? That dairy goat or cow?? Scratched a pig belly?? Well there is the resolve for a family to survive. Meat, eggs, dairy and fertilizer! That important fertilizer they make for our garden and pastures! I can't save the world, only see the horrid messes going on...but I can survive by using what I have. 👍

We preserve what we raise. Raise what we need. Share with each other. Pray for our souls.

As best as I can find from multiple sources, the US does NOT import grain from from the Ukraine or Russia. To say we import much of our grains is not backed by any data I can find. We are an exporter. Europe and Africa do rely that output from that area.

Fertilizer maybe. Seed oils, yes.

Agree, but thats not to say it wont affect USA. Already is with fertilizer prices.

We are in a global economy. We are all intertwined, absolutely.
I am cautioning about letting hyperbole take hold. The wife and I "discussed" this last night.
Too many precedents of shortage fears driving up prices unnecessarily, letting the financial market folks make tons of money

It's going to have taller weeds in the Eastern Washington and Oregon high desert areas this year because of this late snow. That means more wildfires. I just hope it doesn't hit the dryland wheat crops grown there.

Agree...I wrote wrong. Fertilizer and components, yes!!! Most of grain we import is Canadian. But you know many other countries will be food short and looking for supplimentation. Hopefully we will feed USA first. But trade agreements and world markets are screwy right now.
