I am planning to make a better effort in the garden this year.... have to get it fenced and able to keep the deer out... Plus the knees are more "workable" as the months go by... not as good as I thought but at least not painful to stand and walk... so I will be more able to do more in the garden too.
Things that are easy and produce good for the effort...and saleable.... Potatoes and butternut squash/winter squashes... summer squash for eating and freezing... green beans for me once I get the deer situation under control;

More chickens for eggs, seriously thinking about a couple of hogs for summer/fall garden cleanup and tilling over next winter... and maybe some pigs to sell... I miss the hogs... we'll see but more chickens for sure.

Perusing the clearance aisles more at the stores and watching closer for bargains when I am out. It takes time, but sometimes really worth it.
And keeping things "ahead" so that I don't get crazy to find things when I am desperate for them.

The effects of drought are hitting grocery stores now.

Low quality, low stock, high prices

The rest of the store was well-stocked. Veggies and mushrooms were rather empty.

right before the busy holiday weekend i don't expect much of anything to be in stock - especially with this weather and the other "issues". Mom didn't mention anything being in short supply when she shopped Wednesday morning. so it could be a local issue...? dunno. just putting my $0.02 in. :)

good luck and well wishes. :) same here in many regards, not sure i can get more fence up until perhaps another year yet, we'll see. but being able to grow more food inside the fenced gardens we already have up will be nicer by far. we wasted a lot of space the past few years growing some other plants that don't produce food so it will be good to get back the space for food again.

canned tomatoes are always useful.

I'm certain "area" shortages are problems for many. Weather currently...and holiday or weather stock up. Plus workers just getting to work in this weather pattern everyone is seeing right now. Brrr!!

We are not seeing any shortages on food everything u want is available and some prices have gone down. Not critical itiams but Oreos and nutter butters prices are about half what they were last year. Gas has dropped below 3 dollars a gallon and the price of sheet tin at work is back to 20 something a sheet it was as high as 47 a sheet. The 20 dollar range is normal for the last five years for sheet tin. I'm calling it sheet tin but it is actually 4x8 26ga galvanized metal sheets

That could explain the low stock, but not the low quality and prices. I expected milk and bread to be bare since this was hours before the blizzard warning started, but it was just produce. Walmart gets shopped the heaviest and is most prone to empty shelves, IME.

People on FB are complaining that our local grocery stores are out of fresh product today. Cus there were NO DELIVERIES yesterday or last nite. Frozen ice everywhere.

Its amazing that some folks don't stock up at least a couple days of food for times like this weather has created!!
