Truth! They can't stand it that another one has babies and they don't!
So far the doeling/buckling ratio is ok at 3/2!
Ya know - sometimes I don't mind having a buck year because usually I'm not so tempted to keep bucklings. However, this year I'm entertaining the possibility. Just my luck that I won't have a good buckling pool to choose from. What are the odds of that? LOL

Means more kids sold, so more money in the feed and hay dept and less in the cost of raising one up.... and less money spent on a new one either...

This year, doesn't matter....these half dairy kids get sold no matter sex. Meat kids...most get sold. Yeah couple are subject to keeping if doelings. 😁

First born babies are now disbudded. I hate the whole process, but I hate horns more, so now it's done. Won't do the next ones for another week or so.
Planted some more carrots to replace the ones that didn't make it through the freeze. Weird that some froze and some didn't. I guess it's the more mature ones that made it. Have pea seeds in my pocket but didn't get 'em in the ground today. Hope it's not too hot to plant 'em - we hit 80 today! But, we do have a front on the way. Yo-yo weather - up, down, up down.
Raked out the kidding stall and tomorrow I'll spread the goodies in the garden. I'll be repeating that process for a while!

It's nice wearing shorts and t-shirts! But, gotta basically keep two different wardrobes ready. Hot one day....cold a couple days later. Argh!

Cool today so time to wash the shorts and t-shirts from the last couple days.
Been a busy few days and I definitely should be outside working right now. Eh....I'm retired so I can take a couple minutes to sit here. However, it is a beautiful day and I expect to spend quite a bit of it outside. Need to move a round bale today so that'll be chore #1. I've already got the critters moved out of the area I need to work in. Just need to go jump on ol' blue and get 'er done. I'll use the FEL to drag the leftovers of the old bale out and will use that for garden mulch. Then I can move the new bale in, de-twine it and put the stock panel back around it. Goats will love me bunches today!
Goat shuffle will start again next week. I'll move the mamas and babies out of the front pen. Need to disbud the newest babies first. Then I'll bring up at least 3 of the FF's that "should" be the first of their group to kid. Don't have actual breeding dates on them - but do have dates that they were exposed to the buck. I have several older does due around the same time - but they can kid in the big barn further from the house. They're experienced and can generally handle things just fine. Doesn't mean I won't check on them - just means I'd rather have the young-uns closer.
Time to boot up and get started.

Busy day yesterday and promises to be another busy day today. That's how it is - life on the farm and all that. Slept in a bit this morning. Friday night was wild (as if, lol!) and I needed an extra hour or so of horizontal time. That's my excuse...
Got a round bale moved yesterday. Scraped out the remnants of the old one and it's now residing in the various gardens. Didn't have enough for all that I needed, but I'll get to do it all over again in a few weeks when I move another one. Moving the old hay took a minute or two and was great exercise pulling a full garden cart through the mud. Most of the mud is dried up except for right at the gate....of course.
Had a mostly veggie dinner last night. Greens, with a tiny bit of ham for flavor, and broccoli from the garden. You just can't beat fresh broccoli...yum! That might be all of it though. Poor plants suffered severely from the freeze. I need to start some more seeds and see if I can get 'em going before it gets too hot here. I know it's only January, but we'll probably be in the nineties in another couple days - HA! (Might be a slight exaggeration)
Going to throw together a couple more kidding pens in the big barn. I may or may not have a whole wad of does due within a day or so of each other. I like them to have a private place to kid and bond. Many years ago I had a bunch of does kid at the same time. Babies were wandering around asking "are you my mama?" Finally, the does got it all sorted out - but it was nerve wracking for awhile!
Pain doc told DH there was no reason he shouldn't be walking even if it hurts. I suggested a minimum of 2K steps for now. No steps - no dinner, lol. I'm a mean ol' witch! Next week we'll increase the count.
