Have anyone of you ever made a dump cake?
I have a spice cake mix and a jar of my canned apple pie filling,,
From what I have read all you do is :
Put the pie filling in the pan, spread all over, then sprinkle the pie mix all over the pie filling and put butter chunks evenly over the top of the mix and bake,,,,,,,,,,,,,

We have the screw lid kind 5 gallons but I can't see where that would make any difference. We also have 4 pint salt water bottles filled to the brim so they sink in ours. The waterer didn't even freeze solid when we got into the single digits. The tray did freeze, but it was a thin enough layer that was easy for the chickens to peck through. Sorry didn't work for you

Yep, I have that one in a 5gal, I have to remember, that when I go close the coop for the night and the temps are low enough to freeze the water, I need to set the jug on the coop floor and unscrew the lid,,, I had a very hard time getting the lid off this morning to pour hot water into the jug cuz the lid was froze around where the threads are,,,

I don’t have chickens since I moved, but in freezing conditions I put the frozen one in the bathtub and put out one filled with warm water. If necessary I rotate in a 3rd one if the morning one freezes during the day.

Unfortunately, we won't be up until spring thaw. Our cabin isn't really accessible in the winter. Oooo... seed swap? Very cool! If you do get to go, I hope you'll share news of your finds! 😀 Our garden is rather small. But I am trying a few new things, this year. I've already got my seeds. Going to try starting some things, indoors. This is one of the reasons I wanted to come here - to see what I can learn

i'm not really looking for too many things now, some squash, melons, and a few beans, most of what i'll be taking will be beans, i'm always trying to rehome my bean collection to anyone who'd like some.

the first year there were about 400 people who came through, the 2nd year was closer to 700. then Covid came along so there's been a two year gap. if the weather is really bad it might be a few hundred, but if the weather is ok i'm expecting about 500. we'll see...

it sounds like you might be a bit further north than us here (we're in part of the Saginaw River Valley).

Up too early, waiting on daylight. Working job all week, probably. Have one goat due to kid any day, so watching for that...wasn't quite ready yesterday but, day to day right now.

We're having rain events off and on all week. Supposedly light. Well last "light" gave me 2"...I was in one of the heavy spots. It is what it is. Inconvenient!

I see TX is having winter today...... 😁
