Yep as to skewed data!!!

The big death risks were birth and then when they stopped breastfeeding at about 2. Huge death loss at both. But if you made it past that, then most people lived at least into their 60s.

Of course, not counting war.

And yes, different areas of the world, different classes of people, etc. Etc. All made a difference in death rate. But I completely agree with you, and the data you mentioned.

Too many people people use statistics to lie.

Hubby and I have discussed this many times over the years. Often with our gaming group because of different campaigns. Learning stuff is needed for that with a bunch of nerds. That goes for the sci-fi stuff we did as well.

Going back to pre-Renaissance (and somewhat during), make sure you don't try to fit in. That way you get mistaken for an eccentric noble from another country. Historically, people were able to fake it. There are a few cons that are written about. The way the nobility in Europe worked was they had the expectancation of housing any other noble that just showed up on their doorstep for at least several months. So just move around to different noble households every so often.

Modern fabrics with their tight, even weave and bright colors should make up your wardrobe. You want actual high quality and not the modern fashion house trash. Go flamboyent. Take your guns or whatever. There really isn't a risk of causing issues with the archeological record because there are some dumb archeologists that cant tell modern from prehistoric anyway and the good ones will rule out modern artifacts as misplaced by accident which does actually happen all the dang time.

We played everything. About 12 of us. Most were Navy or ex-Navy. Same group for about 15 years. Haven't found a group we like here. Old 2nd ed AD&D, Gurps, Heros, Traveller, Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, Palladium. Sometimes we'd mix it up and play Battletech or Seakrieg. Random other games sometimes like Munchkin or Chrononauts.

I was banned from playing some of the board and card games with some of the others at the gaming store because most have rules where you can make everyone lose and I absolutely will go for that. They learned the hard way and too many got upset because I was good at it. Our main group knew how I played and knew the rules just as well as I did so we did great.

Some of the guys were huge WW 1 & 2 history buffs. I actually prefer pre-history, but do like most history. Wanted to be an archeologist but there's not really much jobs there, so I went aircraft structural mechanic. Very much a nerd and had posters of jets and Airwolf on the wall along with the unicorns as a kid.
