    cockchafers!

Cute skunks! My grandfather had one as a pet as a kid- he said it was orphaned, and it was quite similar to having a cat!

    cockchafers!

We had a skunk problem last year because of our grubby lawn- they dug all kinds of holes trying to get at them! I'll keep letting the chickens in the garden for the time being- they are not going to be happy whenthe fence goes up!

    cockchafers!

$1500?? I'm thinking that option is off the table for me! I'll have to stick with chickens and DE for grub control. Has anyone here ever used beneficial nematodes?

    cockchafers!

Oh yeah, they did a number on my potatoes last year. Not only did I decide to harvest early so no further damage would be done, but they had gotten to a good amount of them already- I have a photo of some of the most minor damage- a found a lot though where half of the potato was gone/gross...

    cockchafers!

everything is pretty wet/moist right now...I'll check out the BT. I've been turning over the soil by hand and letting the chickens in the garden, so I am hoping they have been eating whatever grubs they find!

    Hi from Maine!

I have read that what the goats eat can cause a difference in taste...more weeds and such make a stronger taste I guess?? I see that this site can be addicting! I am a big fan of the backyardchickens website, and have made some great friends there!

    cockchafers!

I'll tell you what, you won't ever hear me swear as much as when I go into the garden and find some bug has been eatting my veggies! I let spiders live in my house, and catch and release other bugs that get in, but if it's eatting my produce, it's going down! I find it quite rude ;)

    cockchafers!

I don't know of any reason why not, not sure why I hadn't thought about this before- I've got a big bag or organic/food grade in the shed that I use to sprinkle in the chicken coop- I have not ever used it in the garden- suggestions about how much to use?

    Hi from Maine!

That's really neat! Are you drinking the milk? How is the taste difference as compared with cow's milk? I know a lady around here who makes and sells yogurt- cow and goat- but I've never tried the goat!

    Yogurt!

thanks for the suggestions and support! I suppose Icould also try it over the mantle when I've got the woodstove burning.

    cockchafers!

Last year I had a pretty serious cockchafer( big nasty grub, looks like stag beetle larva) issues with my potatoes. I lost close to 25% of my harvest because of them. Has anyone here had experience with them before, and do you have any organic/natural solutions? I plan obviously to plan the...
