Just got back from breaking up some more kidney stones :) I was thinking maybe Kim should be a bass head - since it would occupy some of all that time he has on his hands. He looks pretty good with long hair too.

My wife asked me a legitimate question... she said "i can hear your radio coming up the road a mile a way while sitting in the living room. When you pull up in the drive the pictures rattle on the walls. How loud are you gonna make that thing?" I said let me think about that a little bit and I'll get back to you.

So in the veggie hauler which is a 03 extended cab Chevy Silverado. I installed 12 professional grade competition speakers. In each of the 4 doors I have a 4" tweeter, a 6 1/2 midrange and a 8" subwoofer. Plus under the rear seat I have two 12" subwoofers in a wooden box I built tuned to 35 hz so that's 14 speakers. To power those 14 speakers I have a total of 4000 watts RMS (8000 watts peak) of class AB amplification in two amplifers. A 1500 watt 2 channel just to run the subwoofers and a 6 channel 2500 watt to run the door speakers channels 1&2 run the front door tweeters and midranges, 3&4 to run the back door tweeters and midranges, 5&6 run all 4 8" door subwoofers left and right doors. Plus I installed a 7 band equalizer to dial it all in.

In the engine bay, I replaced the old 140 amp alternator with a 350 amp alternator, added another battery just to power the radio, ran a fused 0 guage welding power cable back to the amplifers because we'll 4000 watts @ 14.4 volts really requires some amperage.

Despite that my wife can hear me a mile a way and the pictures rattle on the walls when I pull up in the veggie hauler. There may be a couple of more indicators that I really should say enough is enough.

1) with the volume on 1 of 35 my rearview mirror becomes totally unusable do to vibration from the 6 subwoofers.

2) at a volume of 5 out of 35 I have to loosen up my ponytail so.my hair covers my ears or else it's really uncomfortable.

3) at a volume of 10 out of 35 I get people pulling up next to me at stop lights rolling down their windows so they can listen to what I'm playing.

4) at a volume of 12 of 35. I vibrate the car in front of me at stop lights. I actually had a guy get out of his car and told me he thought something was wrong with his engine until he realized nope it was just my radio.

5) at volume of 15 of 35, cops pull me over because my radio is too loud! A friend of my daughter accidently orgasmed while sitting in the back seat (subwoofers are under the back seat) I didn't even know that could happen... opps sorry about that. When your coming up on your destination you have to turn down the volume so you can see out of the windshield clearly.

7) At a volume of 20 of 35 i find it very difficult to control my badder - so I don't go to this volume very often and only on a empty bladder. But it's like getting a total body massage. I also cracked my windshield and if you roll down a window which you really have to or the new windshield may crack again. Your hair will fly around to the beat like your in a wind tunnel or something. I mean who needs a hair dryer when got 4000 watts of radio amplification?

8) When I went into town this evening it was 52 degrees out side but I had to run the air conditioner because well 4000 watts of radio amplification makes the cab very warm... I may not need to run the heater that much this winter. Defrosting windows should be quick also.

So to answer my wife's question "how loud are you gonna make that thing?" Well I really don't know yet... I'm not done with it yet :)

Hmmmmm....I rarely even turn the radio on when I drive. You're one of the types I cuss when they stop alongside & rattle my car or make me look for what is rattling. To each his own, I say.

BUT, you do great woodwork!! Great gardening!! Good granddad!! Surprised you aren't deaf!! :th

I'm sure I would be if they had all this cool stuff when I was growing up. But I'm a old guy who's just a big kid so why not? BTW... I don't play that bumpy bump bump hip-hop or techno garbage that you are referring to - i even find that trash annoying! But instead of cussing - I just turn it up and overpower them with some good classic rock or maybe some smooth jazz and everything is good again :)

Could be the old age deafness is WHY you need the loud speakers? :D Folks can think you are cool instead of knowing you are just growing hard of hearing.

I've lived out in the quiet so long that loud noises like that actually hurt my ears now, so that would drive me into hiding. I don't even allow excessive barking or crowing at my place, so that racket would make me want to bring out the shotgun! o_O
