I hate to be the one to bring this up, but a wild rabbit that is sick is pretty easy to catch. I would make sure nobody gets bitten or scratched and washes really well after handing it.
FarmerDenise, thanks so much for the additional info about the maggots. I would have instinctively picked.
bibliophile birds, How funny. I have a bird with the exact same injury. We call her Peggy and hope we can get her to sit.
Bob Update : It wasnt looking good first thing this morning. He...
Oh come now! You could leash train him, take him to town and go in places like PetSmart or whatnot.. it could be fun :gig
So glad to hear he is improving!
Oh my! what a great idea for my own injured little guy! I have and brand new stuffed dog toy that would likely make him feel much better, Thanks So Much!
FarmerDenise, Thanks so much for the hope! Yours looks way worse than mine and to see that he recovered well.... well I might sleep tonight!
I went out and checked on Bob, ( yes I named him) and I woke him and 113 other chickens up for no reason at all. Bob has figured out he and squat walk...
bibliophile birds, you've brought tears to my eyes. I swear I feel like a total fool here. I just cant stand suffering. It might be my Italian DNA, but I want to hold him and feed him and sing to him and he is good with all of that if we do it in the coop. I have named him Bob and informed the...
No. We don't do freeze dried food around here except for packs. Even then I really question how much nutrition really remains. IMHO, dehydrated foods retain more nutrition and fats so we dehydrate what goes into the bug out packs. They really arent that much more weight and even if they are...
I got our bug out packs from them and the guys really like their site for all kinds of stuff that doesnt fall in the budget. They tend to be accurate with describing products and quick with shipping. The guys are always quite excited when the stuff they ordered arrives.
Okay , so he was obviously distraught for being separated from the rest of the flock, so we put him in a smaller cage where he could reach the food and water without moving but still be in the coop. I really wanted him to feel comfortable in the house with me, where I could watch and fuss over...
So I just checked on him again. I think we are going to bring him in. I was thinking the bathtub, but its cast iron and cold even in the summer. I need a place that the cats and dog can't get to him. I dont want him brought in and then stressed because my cats are stalking him.
I got a...
I don't know about almond flour, but I make my own coconut flour. I get the organic raw shredded or a whole coconut if I am feeling frisky. I shred it and then put it in the dehydrator. Once is crispy dry, I just run it through the mill a few times just before I use it.
So, we had to go to town to replace the oven , get new fittings and of course buy more plants and canning jars. Just before we left, I went out and checked on the chickens. Everyone was up and moving around , nobody was acting like there was a problem of any kind at all. Town being town, we were...
:gig Now I cant get the image of a big brown papier-mache horse out of my head.
I literally just today ordered the brick maker and just got a whole bunch of paper soaking :)
LOL an hour ago I might have said spinning soy milk would be easier, but I think I have this sorted now. More tension, more twists , more water and after about of ounce of getting the feel for it, its starting to shape up. The cussing jar got upgraded from a quart to a half gallon today because...
So, I got this great deal on 28 oz of soy silk roving. I was expecting what I know roving to look like, not perfectly aligned strands , that would make an amazing wig. So, I pluck out a bit and get my wheel ready. This is absolutely the most unruly , flyaway, breaking-est (thats a word, i...
I have absolutely nothing useful to add. I just wanted to offer up a hug and best wishes that your baby heals well and quickly. I've only recently discovered how emotionally straining raising birds from babies is, so I completely sympathize with your stress.
I am right there with justusnak. Being forced to wear shoes at all is horrible enough, but to have to actually wear something with " support" is akin to an underwire in bras.. just cruel. 3 or 4 pairs of the cheap canvas ones in assorted colors for spring , summer and autumn. I do however keep...
Farmfresh OMG! what genius ! I have been sweltering over the stove top all this time and here I could have just put it in the crock pot. The sad part of not having considered this is that I do apple butter in the crock pot
I have used my cheap dehydrator ( no added heat type) for herbs and beans. I don't care for peas but I cant imagine they are much different than beans??? I use the not so cheap dehydrator for thicker or wetter things. The heat speeds the process but also partially cooks, so I use it for eggs and...
Our cats are indoors only and we have a dog that goes in and out. I treat with Front Line at the beginning of the season, but the best thing we found is planting Habanero. We plant them just outside the dogs range on her tie out ( she loves to landscape) about every 15 feet. We discovered this...
