Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Well put @FarmerJamie and I whole-heartedly agree! Like a lot of us I pop in multiple times a day but sometimes don't really have time or information to post. I've been guilty of clicking a like button and moving on. Other days, when I'm inside and not so time stressed, I really try to respond.

How we added chickens to our homestead

Great coop and run. I can't imagine needing to protect my birds against bears!

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Ya'll make me feel like a total wimp complaining about the temps here, lol! But - truth is - I AM a total weather wimp and I embrace it. So, today I'll reach down into that wet muddy hole and turn off the water valve to the pasture. Then I'll have to turn it back on when this freakish cold...

    the little wild kingdom

They do tend to blow it up, lol. I find that I'm kind of addicted though. I'm always afraid there will be a last-minute change that I'll miss and life as we know it will be forever changed, lol!

    What's for dinner?

Yum! I'm struggling with my sugar addiction these days. Problem being I promised myself brownies for bad weather preps and I never made them. I feel so deprived, lol! We had fresh collards straight from the garden last night. Threw a sausage link in with 'em, lots of garlic and onions and...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Have a "regular" cold front coming in tonight but the Arctic air will follow tomorrow. Back in the 20's by Saturday morning - oh yay. Thankfully, most preps are in place from the earlier front. I do have a list of things to be done before next winter! First - rebuild the pump house. It's...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

It's unnatural I tell ya! Unnatural! (and it really sucks)

    What's for dinner?

Nothing about that surprises me... Is any of that hereditary? (glad you and your brother dodged that bullet!)

    Fish for Venison

Yum! Nothing better than a fish fry. (unless it's a crawfish boil!)

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

I guess Monday is better than nothing - but that's a few extra days without pay - ugh.

    Experimenting with growing food indoors

Wow! Just wow! I like the idea of being able to grow something inside. I'm not handy like that - but maybe I can learn. I have done microgreens indoors and they're simple enough. I even put together a small aquaponic set up a couple years ago and grew a couple of tiny tomato plants in it...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Thanks. Who knows? However, I've still got several other pregnant does who haven't had any issues... :hu

    What's for dinner?

I love lettuce wraps and we have done that occasionally. He is a Tex-Mex food lover through and through, so he loves the low carb tortillas. Not that they're extremely low but at least they don't cause his blood sugar to spike.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

One of my does aborted a baby yesterday. No idea why. I found it with no movement except for a heartbeat and an occasional shallow breath. Poor baby was probably a month early. No teeth, barely any hair and eyes sealed shut. No hope and its mama really didn't seem to have a bond with it. I...

    What's for dinner?

DH is having a beef and bean burrito wrapped in a low carb tortilla and topped with lots of cheese and sour cream. He's a happy guy. I wasn't feeling a tortilla, so I had my beef and beans over some cilantro lime rice.

    How we heat our homestead

That's cool! (or more appropriately - warm!) We're all electric and I've never loved that idea, but it is what it is. I received a notice today from my power supplier that I've used 156% more electricity this month than last. I know I'm not going to be pleased when the bill comes.

How we went from forest to food production

That's fantastic. What type of wood did you start with? I originally built my beds out of cedar and they didn't last long enough to suit me. I've been rebuilding with cinder blocks....they're really heavy, lol.
