My daughter brought home a dog like yours. Trout is so sweet and such a good guard dog. So we made adjustments to our coops, they are much larger now and dog proof and have a good sized chicken tractor also. Trout only goes out supervised with our other dogs (who don't bother the hens) then back...

You are so right. My daughter and I aren't materially rich. But we are rich in faith. We have hens, garden, learning to preserve our harvest. But don't worry about news and such, we know God has us. :)

Kemps, how do you make your own febreeze? I just recently started shopping Aldis, I love it! Dollar Tree has great things I stock up on. :) I get my chicken breast in bulk from Zaycon when I can. And sometimes Bountiful Baskets has awesome beans in bulk. :)

Made a duck pen in corner of barn to bring them in when it gets cold. I used two wire dog kennels. Got my garden ready for Fall veggies, kinda late but here in Texas it's warm till January. And got my knitting stash out. :)

Baymule I'm used to doing alot of outside stuff alone. :) Thats a good idea, maybe in my upper kitchen cabinet that I can't reach up there without a chair. Hmmmmm...off to go plan. Lol

I read somewhere about using pvc pipe. Put canned goods in and cap them, bury in your garden. They may raid your garden but never think of digging it up. I've also wondered about burying plastic coolers with canned goods inside? I can't do an ice box as I live alone.

Can you store dried beans, rice and oats in mason jars?

I have not had Cable/Sat TV in over 6 years and do not miss it at all. I get maybe 8 OTA channels, but really only watch TV for the news. Other then that, if I really want to watch something I will go down to the RedBox. I spend more time outside or reading. :hide
