Seriously--- don't ignore this. While it could be dehydration--- a dvt is a definite possibility. And a dvt is dangerous (I'm a nurse). Though you live a frugal lifestyle, this is something you shouldn't put off checking out- it's necessary to make sure it is or isn't one. If it IS a dvt...
Well, you've got a great list to work from. Pick the ideas that appeal to you, that are "do-able" for you, and might be "fun". We all have to pick and choose the parts of SS that we are willing and able to do. Little steps make for big progress.
DH and I are in our mid to late 40's. Not...
Cold is relative. I don't mind it so much, I wish there was less of it. We have so very many months that we can't do anything, and so few months that we can garden and grow things. The winter weather extremes make even the smallest of "season extending measures" minimal. Once we get a...
Pound cake is a tricky thing--- I've had it spill all over an indoor oven-- yet it tasted great.
On a side note--- I am loving the look of your solar oven. Did you build or purchase it? My husband is planning to build me one ( can't wait). Yours looks so tidy and beautiful-- tell me you...
Yes--- this!
I did get the book, listened to his radio show, and then signed up for his classes, and took my adult daughter. 2 classes into it, we were feeling very uncomfortable and never went back. Primarily, because I was unmarried, and living with my boyfriend ( we are now married) and...
Wow, I can't believe I'm over a year into this thread/ posting. Loving the summer here in Maine, and always dreaming of a longer garden season and milder winter season during the winter. While not jumping at any decisions, I do still dream of something milder!!
The hot and cold rules don't really apply much anymore. Most docs tell you to go with what feels good, regardless of the fact that ice reduces inflammation in acute injuries. Ice often causes pain that's intolerable, and anti-inflammatory meds can reduce swelling as well. Heat will increase...
You don't need a thing to compost "in". Just a corner or spot in the yard-- pile it up, push it around once in awhile. Hose it down when it's dry. Keep adding, digging, turning til it's done. No fancy containers needed!
Asparagus! First cutting of the season. Cut 1 1/2 hours ago, in the canner waiting for the temp to come up.
Last year we had so much rain and bad weather that I had 2 meals,and1 frozen bag ful of them. I'm determined to have MUCH more this year :) I even cut them standing in the POURING...
You guys are really sharing some GREAT information. New Mexico is sounding really, really nice to me. I'll have to start focusing in that area, but we're not excluding anything at all!
All the "little things" are great to hear, and know, and will be helpful in the long run, when we make the...
We live in Northern Maine, bought our home 2 years ago. Have always lived in New England (we're in our 40's) and are considering a move to somewhere in the southwest- warm, desert type, or near this environment.
Would like to find an area that's a nice combination of out of the way- a house...
One of my favorites is an old Laurel's Kitchen. It focuses a lot on bread, and vegetarian meals. There's a lot of story to it , too. I used to borrow it from the library repeatedly, and finally found a used one on Ebay about a year ago, so I have a copy of my own.
Most vegetables are best...
Sounds like a combination of too cool, and yeast that's definitely too old. Get yourself new yeast, and , as suggested, put a pan/bowl, etc. of warm water under the rising bowl and you should see a big difference!
Thanks.
I've only glanced at the patterns, to see if there are techniques I dont' know-- then I'm going line by line. I've even got grids of little boxes to check off as I go, so I know what I've done, and where to pick up again. The cloth I'm working on now is really neat-- and coming out...
Thanks! I'll post pics soon!
The pattern reading part is hard for me, too- so I'm doing really easy stuff right now, with alternating knit/purl, etc. so I get used to the patterns. I'm choosing progressively more difficult patterns, so I can learn to read them better-- it's what's scared me away...
I'm loving all these sites!
I've finished one dish cloth-- gave it to the lady who taught me my first stitches. 3/4 way thru a scarf for another lady at work. Decided I really wanted to start another dish cloth ( a pattern I found thru one of the sites linked here) and got half way thru that...
Thanks guys!!!! I'm off to look at, and bookmark sites :)
Keep those suggestions coming!!!
Oh.. just to add.. I do have a knitting machine that belongs to my grandmother. She moved into a nursing home in September, and I have her machine in my truck still. I know it's older, and not sure of...
I finally took the leap-- the ladies at work have been wanting to teach me a hand-craft for a year- and I'm learning to knit.
What are your favorite "easy" projects to knit?
What are your favorite websites for patterns, etc?
Any suggestions for buying yarns online? My shopping choices...
