    Avalon1984-Chicken, horses, pigs, oh my!

I hope everybody had a good and productive weekend! We spent most of the two days shoveling poop out of the horse paddocks (they do a fine job of mixing the few bits of poop I miss during the week in with the dirt, so it makes a big mess every 4-5 weeks) and adding it to my sunflower garden up...

Seriously? How many times can I possibly break my little toe in less than a year? That sad thing looks like a battering ram and feels rather crunchy when trying to limp on it. Somebody care to adopt it? It is clearly not safe near me. I had to shae this picture we took last weekend. This is one...

    How much poop...

Depends on the horse and bedding. We pick the poop from the field so there is no sawdust, straw or shavings. The big girls do about 1 wheel barrow per day :P I did poop tea this year too and it worked wonders. Here you go. This is my dear hubby on one of manure piles. This one we nursed since...

livin' on the funny farm- SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, they did the same up here, a man made hay depression. They are up to 5th cutting on almost everything. The good thing is that prices are dropping slowly because people thatw ere on the edge got rid of their horses and there is not much more of a market for these hay gangsters and now they...

livin' on the funny farm- SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HA! I am glad I'm not the only one. My incubator has been filled with eggs since yesterday. This is part of the reason why this is my most favorite time of the year. A clean drawing board to fill with many crazy ideas!

    Avalon1984-Chicken, horses, pigs, oh my!

So today we staked out the area where the new barn will be. Quite a big area. I will lose half of one of my better pastures so I will have to make a better effort this year and de-weeding the 2 back pastures which would more than make up for the difference. Plus there is a little area by our...

Great idea with the gravel! Yes, I think my lady is just not getting used to it very well. She did great for a few weeks this summer and I actually took her out on some trail rides and as long as she could swing her head around to see with her good eye she was fine. But lately she has been...

livin' on the funny farm- SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear you. This is an awful situation to be in. Many people are going through the same thing up here. Could you try and keep them going on beet pulp, alfalfa- and timothy pellets mixed with straw? We are using this as an additive so we can save some hay here and there. Seems to work for the...

    Avalon1984-Chicken, horses, pigs, oh my!

She does ok since she has another mare in with her being the "seeing eye" horse, plus she has one ok eye. I am not sensing that she is necessarily remembering, I think she is just solely relying on the other mare. She is also starting to get a bit "funny" mentally so I am keeping an eye on her...

Aw Thank you :hugs I wish I wouldn't have been gone so long but things got pretty busy. I still have my herd of 6 but my old lady who is now half blind is just not handling stuff as well anymore. We'll see how she does. After all, for a Clydesdale that is 25 she isn't doing too bad at all...

Hahaha! I wish he would Trim! That lil critter just won't grow. He was supposed to be my breeding stallion but he is sort of half the size he should be despite a phenomenal pedigree. I will give him one more year and if he doesn't grow decent I will say "Off with his nuts!" I do love those...

So what do I need to do to be self sufficient in 2014?

I would make sure you do all your SS projects one step at a time. Sometimes there can be too many cooks in the kitchen and before you know it youll find yourself overwhelmed. I work full time plus I have a horse farm so free time is pretty much non existent. I try and focus on a few things but...

    So, what'd ya get?

Got hubby an Ash Vaccum and an emergency radio. I got more ammo for my .22 and more lead ropes. My barn seems to do the same thing like socks in a dryer, just with lead ropes.

I knew I forgot to add pictures! Here is our boy at the show, minus the mane flowers, we put those in after picture taking and it turned a bit hectic for a while. And here is the inside to our newest chicken house #3. We finally did finish it.
