Canned foods, shelf stable packages, dried goods. Whatever you choose, choose something you already eat so you just keep rotating it. Something you really need to remember if you have kids who can go really picky on a new food that doesn't actually taste that good but will keep you alive.
If you home can, meals in a jar are great. Like soups. This is where canned meats are very nice.
We could live off tuna noodles alone for well over a month here just with the pasta and tuna I have stored.
Store water. Everyone should have at least 3 days stored anyway incase of emergency. We usually have a weeks on hand. It's used and renewed every week. We have very high iron in the water and looked at filtering and tried faucet filters. Cheaper for us to just fill up at the water station at the store with filter price and how long they lasted. It's only used for cooking and drinking.
We do own a gravity filter. Rainwater or marsh water can be filtered in a real emergency. The marsh water has been tested and other than normal precautions won't hurt us. Flooding situations is where it would get dicey. If we're flooding, there's been a ton of rain so that would be used. I collect rain for the chickens most of the year anyway. The containers fill fairly quick here.
