I am overwhelmed with cuteness! the lady never called about the chicks so I still have 11 6-week old chicks with Pat in her little run. Broody hen hatched a 4th chick but flattened it, now she has the 3 out in the big run. They stay at one end and mind their own business - none of the others will go near them because Mama Yankee is very scary.
The dwarf rabbits are like mutant hamsters - just big ears. The brown one, Cheeto, is warming up pretty well... I guess figured out that the cage door opening equals treats. The black and white one -Oops until I think of another name- is insanely shy. When I hold her she flattens her ears so much they blend in with the fur on her back. So I carry her around with me as much as possible. Bon Bon - the black mutt rabbit is fabulous! I open the cage door and she comes to me, I carry her around or put her on a little leash and let her hop around outside eating grass. She will tackle you over a cabbage leaf! At night when I hold her she snuggles under my chin.
Today I have about 3 hours of "free" time and we are supposedly in for some very bad weather this evening. I don't want to plant seeds and then have them wash away (watch it not even rain). So I'll have to settle for adding straw to my potatoes and starting work on outside rabbit hutches.... though I think I will also build a frame for their current cages to stay inside - especially in the Florida heat.
Yesterday at work a friend was grinning at me real big. I asked her what was up and she said "I don't think I have ever seen you this happy and excited as when you talk about the surgery and working outside in your garden". I leaned in close and whispered "I think this is what hope feels like"
