Are all cast iron pans created equal?

Look for a very smooth surface on the inside of the pan. New Lodge pans have a rougher surface than some of the older pans that are actually cheaper! A really well-seasoned and very smooth pan is a joy to work with. As non-stick as Teflon without the fumes.

I have some mystery pans, too, and love them all.
