They will prob go to roost at dusk, then lock them up -- it's a chicken thing. Well, mine do all the time:rolleyes:

they might be new enough that they've not got a schedule established - but i'll admit i'm just guessing here based upon what might be faint memories of what i've read. :)

They are a bit wild and resist the coop. Plus I can’t keep the coop open or everything will get loose. They were caught after DH planted a bunch of tomatoes and cucumbers. HG started a fire in the evening and before they came inside they captured the chickens in the orange tree.
I am totally out of egg cartons but I do have some crates. But the wild, crazy hens lay some white, pointy eggs that are smallish in size. I’m thinking I will boil all of them, then pickle them and put them up in quart size masons. That will free up some cartons for the BR eggs. I’m slacking on my record keeping but I think it’s about 5 days we bred a doe again and we will have to start removing her kits and let her prepare for the next litter.
I cooked down some chicken boney pieces and the breast bones from the 4 roosters and I just decided to put a big roux in the crockpot with some Lima beans for a fricassee. I originally just use the meat and broth for soup but it really is a lot of meat if you pick each piece by hand. So it might be another week before I make gumbo.
I should just hook up the neighbors with eggs every week or so cuz they bring us some of their commodity food they don’t want. The man brought us frozen peaches a couple of days ago. I was thinking, I am not putting that in the freezer. I’m gonna make a cobbler right now to go with my lunch. I can’t imagine not wanting peaches.
Trouble is really earning her name lately. I have been putting garlic in her dog food just as a preventative but she was scratching herself under my bed so I did my thing and tied her up in the shower. She was whining a lot because she probably got cold but I wanted her clean. So later she goes outside and I heard DH calling me just to say she was rolling around in dust, while him and a friend were doing mechanic work on the old truck….the money pit. I hope they get it fixed soon so we can worry about the other truck. Anything so DH can get yet another truck out of his mind. Less is more. I babysat the grandkids so DS and DIL can start to move house into a slightly bigger apartment. I’m glad they will have room for a washer and dryer.
I decided to follow a YouTube lady who does a chair workout for people with limitations. I think my workouts are helping. I figured it would be about equivalent to physical therapy. It’s just a few days now. I added abdominal exercises myself because it’s mostly legs, hips, back and arms. I couldn’t keep up with the mourners at the funeral last week and I had to stop a few times (each time a different one of my children became concerned). Plus I bought some small clothes that didn’t fit me properly so between all that and my knowledge of decreased strength I just did it. I didn’t tell anyone at first but I have since. And speaking of which…Everdries…ladies get them but order the next size. Let’s be honest and open. Once you have been pregnant 7 times in your life and have whatever else wrong with you, you might start leaking. I’m trying to not be ashamed to say these things. But Poise can’t handle a gusher if you just woke up and just can’t make it to the bathroom in time or God forbid it’s occupied!! You would have to try to just slowly let it go while holding it and pray for the best. I had such an experience with the underwear and I was wearing a cotton pants. It stayed dry!! I threw the underwear in the shower cuz going in anyway but I was just happy to be able to stop buying pads. I honestly think it would help young women too for periods. But I think they make an underwear for that now too. Sorry guys!! Life happens. Well time to start moving around. Hey…at least the crockpot is working 🤷‍♀️

nothing to be ashamed of for sure. most of us probably have some issues we won't easily talk about as we get older. i don't really want to talk about mine either and won't - simply because if i start going on about that stuff then we don't normally talk about anything else and i'd rather ...

the sun is out, it's cold, but it is sun. :)

I gave a dozen BR eggs to the neighbors and I boiled all those pointy eggs. I will start peeling tomorrow. Really tired. The fricassee was good but I didn’t cook rice cuz we had some French bread that needed to disappear.
I had some muddy eggs but they all washed now but I don’t know where the mineral oil is located. I know I can coat the eggs with oil and preserve them for a long time but not sure I will keep them long anyway.
I’m all medicated up and I should probably take a shower and go to bed.

DD has been with me a few days. Always a joy. HG has been MIA here and there. I mostly just miss and worry about the baby when she vanishes. Well I have tried and hopefully she has been learning survival skills and life lessons. I’m sure she will continue to call this place home but she vanishes at the drop of a hat without telling me anything.
DH bought two huge sirloin roasts and cut them up into stew meat. I have a soup started because I had so much cabbage that needed to be cooked (between the two I bought and the 4 the neighbor caught at the Irish parade). I hope I didn’t mess it up by putting the can of spaghetti sauce in the pot. Last time I used the other can, I ruined the spaghetti. But it was the last can. I put in my last Ziplock of last year’s green beans. I have no turnips so I will just use lots of carrots and whatever else I can find. I need room in the freezer for whatever comes up, after all.
Yesterday DD middle child called me. We must’ve stayed on the phone for 2 hours. That’s rare. She lives in an arid climate in Texas and she complained about it being difficult to obtain seafood and said she can’t even find butcher sausage in the grocery stores there. I spoke about DH’s connections and said how, not only can I get various kinds of butcher sausage but if we obtain a deer, pig or large portion of beef that we could buy seasoning packets from the meat department for green onion sausage, Cajun sausage, breakfast sausage etc and the way we keep up on shrimp is when DH’s trawler friend is totally done sitting roadside on his boat, waiting for finish selling his catch, he calls us and depending on the count, he makes us an offer we can’t refuse. Like $1/pound for stewing shrimp. She immediately requested in on the deal if I am willing to peel extra and freeze to send to Texas. But apparently she also plans on freezing an enormous amount of butcher sausage to take with her also. My poor, Cajun baby!! It was good to hear her voice. She must sound so strange over there. SIL jokes that when she gets excited she starts talking Alligator. 😂.
I told oldest DD that she can have my big generator. She said, “Seriously?!?!” I said, “Should I just leave it parked next to my destroyed house to rust away?” I started talking about her brother rents, her sister is in Texas and is married to a man who repairs generators, the next one is living with her (even more reason) and I can run the entire house I’m currently in with just a small generator run by gas. It all started cuz we were talking about her gas powered, tankless water heater which she said is dependent upon some electricity. I hope it happens. Better than it being stolen.
Yeah well my boxwood stove is missing but I did get some game cameras that apparently will send my phone text pictures as someone shows up. I don’t know why I’m scared to set it up. Modern technology scares me somewhat.
Well I best conquer the world. Maybe I will ask about the baby. Have a great day people.

your story about sending frozen food reminds me of the time my sister came from NM to visit here and packed some frozen chilis in her luggage (which they lost and then we had it delivered two days later to where we were staying up north). *phew!* lol

gl with HG and baby checkup.

My great aunt was the baby of the family and she accepted shrimp from a sister and forgot it in her car and didn’t go anywhere for a few days. That story is rather famous in my family.
Yesterday we buried my mom’s first cousin. Got to see lots of relatives. Hope next time it’s under different circumstances. I didn’t bother with my wheelchair because I just knew it would be soaked (left outside).
HG is still MIA. I just wonder about the baby. She waits much longer she can come get her stuff. I’m not sorry. I helped her. I cared for the baby.
I need to clean out the fridge and feed everything to the chickens and start over fresh. The chickens will be happy today.
DH says he thinks we have some broody hens in the coop. Joy!!
On the 2nd I had my bloodwork and CT scan done and acted like I was sipping a piña colada.
I go for my results in a few days.

Funerals are usually a gathering we wish was different. But sometimes it's how we know others are still among us.🥴. Sadly so.

My chickens love "frig day" too 😄

So I guess I kicked butt for someone in my shape. I fed the chickens scraps. Hung a bunch of clothes and I noticed a hen was brooding on eggs that couldn’t possibly be fertile. I brought her inside and gave her to DH, robbed her pretty nest, lined it with DH’s worn out socks, took the fertile eggs from the two hens brooding in the coop, except the one they broke in their craze. I put 15 eggs on the yucky socks and then threw the hen in the backyard. She found her way back and is at work. Gotta figure out what to do with the other two hens because I hate managing eggs in a coop. If we can cage them off so the other hens don’t bother them then they are hired. 😝.
I rolled the shopping bags on the table and did so many dishes.
I found a fritter type dish involving cabbage, flour, eggs, onions and seasoning that I am so tempted to try because I already have smothered cabbage. I have to form some patties and fry them. I hope the pork sausage doesn’t destroy the dish.
I really want to keep cleaning up but I need a lot of inspiration.
