I do this.

Baking soda to scrub the scalp and apple cider vinegar rinse :)

My hair loves it.

I have very long thick hair so no help on how it works on short ;)

I tried it Saturday night. Tablespoon of baking soda with water to massage on scalp and run down hair. Then ACV rinse with Tablespoon of cider with a cup of water. It was different not having suds with the wash, but okay. Seems to have done just fine. I had a squirt bottle in the shower with me to dilute the cider with warm water. So far so good. My hair is mostly gray and thick, no receeding hairline or male pattern baldness here, funny cause my dad was bald in his mid 30's.

Ditto on the stinging part with the eyes. The baking soda caught me forst and you would have thought I'd learn but NNOOOOO, the vinegar had to get me too-lol.

Wait a second, don't baking soda and vinegar react?

Is that reaction is what does the "cleaning"?

Or do you rinse the baking soda out first?

I'm finding this intriguing. Thanks everyone, for sharing.

Rinse out the baking soda, then rinse with vinegar.

Years ago I heard that the baldness gene is only passed down from the mother, not the father, so that might explain why your experience is different than your dad's.

I suppose if you want bubbles....
you can put the soda and vinegar on your head together!!

I am going to try this... I am all for saving $ these days!! I have hair down to my waist. And I am "old"... My husband likes long hair.

Hmmm, infusing the vinegar with nice smelling herbs is a great idea!

To everyone who is already doing this, do you only use ACV or would ordinary white vinegar work just as well? Also, I buy ACV with the mother as a remedy for chickens/people in my house but it seems like it wouldn't be necessary for it to have the mother for washing hair. Would ordinary (read: cheaper) ACV without the mother work okay for hair?

Okay. Now I really wanna rinse the baking soda out WITH the vinegar!!!!

I buy the cheap junk for my hair, for sure. Giant bottle of filtered, pasteurized....

To cook I'm starting to make my own, but otherwise buy good uncooked raw with a mother ACV lol.

I used to use white, but I like the feel of the acv better.

My scalp is much less dry.

I used to get little scabs from how dry it got, and now no issue.

eta: noticed the difference after about 3 weeks :)
