BeccaOH: Update of just STUFF

What kind of incubators do you and Aly have? Thinking of getting one and sneaking it into the new barn......

My first was a still-air Little Giant. I had great hatch results with hand turning in it. Then I got a Hova-Bator with fan. It has done quite well too. Last night I scored a used LG with fan and turner for a decent price.

I used an auto turner once before and didn't think the hatch results were good at all. I prefer hand turning as it seems that eggs laying on their sides is more natural than up on points in a turner.

The LG and HB are inexpensive incubators. I think they work just fine for the beginner if you are willing to be attentive to your eggs. Be sure to get a good digital thermometer too.

We have some year round here now. But you can tell that the ones who do migrate are returning because they're all over the place!! Wooohooo

Signs of spring:
- robins
- blue birds
- earth worms
- daffodil shoots
- day lily shoots
- broody hen
- turkey lovin'
- full incubators
- and MUD

Finally got my SUV cleaned out last night. So glad to have the straw, hay, and feathers gone. But it still smells like cow in there. :he

Supposed to go to Cleveland Saturday for a church women's meeting, but I don't want to go. It is supposed to be 64 and partly sunny Saturday. :love Don't make me go! I want to work on arranging chickens in breeding pens and getting turkeys moved out of my garden so I can think about planting.

I love seeing my bulbs coming in! My daylilies are going crazy this year! I have all kinds of birds showing up too! Have you guys finally gotten rid of all your snow?

Hey, give Aly a big hug for me, will ya? :)

Sure better than last Saturday's weather!!!! It was great seeing you and your mom again!

Been crazy around my place. Lots of work on separating out breeds. The chickens are pretty much done for now, but I need to do ducks.

Yesterday I spent all day at the hospital an hour away while my mom had hip replacement surgery. All went well, thankfully.

I finally got my first BLUE egg after a long wait. Last spring I hatched out several BBS Amerucana, then they were killed by a coon. Last fall I hatched another round and kept a trio. I have a blue roo, a blue hen, and a splash hen. Last night I walked into the coop at dusk and almost stepped on my first blue egg from them. Nice color! :celebrate
