You are also getting me in trouble! I am currently reading All Flesh is Grass and it is driving my husband crazy! I am so excited about everything I'm reading it is killing me! I am loving the idea of pasturing animals and rotational grazing and now I want sheep!!!

I'm really happy for you and I can't wait to see pics!

Oh, lori! I think everyone should try the rotational pasturing....I think grain is going to become too expensive to buy or grow before too long. Grass is free and, managed properly, can be more proliferant than the growth we see in our yards. I need to find that book as I haven't read it yet!

Tell your hubby you only have his wallet in mind when you want to try this! Initial investment, yes. Longterm dividends, yes!

I really love Gene Logsdon's books - but All Flesh Is Grass is one of my absolute favorites!

I'm going to the library tomorrow and find this little gem! Can't pass up a good book on pasture.....

Well, gals, my hens are now laying eggs in the doghouse of the young hound that steals eggs from their nests!!! He doesn't even have to steal now, the girls are sweet enough to deliver the eggs right to his door!

Side note on eggs:

Word has got around and I've had a few comments in two different counties about how much better my eggs are than other farm eggs and the orders are acomin' in! I knew quality would win out!

Now I wish I had more laying hens.....

Bee - have you ever tried a "pepper egg"?

My grandma used to tell me to partially blow an egg and then inject hot sauce inside of it and wax shut the hole at each end. Pencil mark the "pepper eggs" then place several of them about to be found by the hound. Since dogs break the shell in their teeth they get a quick mouthful of heat. It is supposed to convince them egg eating is a risky business.

I am not sure if it really works or not, but worth a try?

On a similar note:

We had a problem with cookie snatchers when the kids were little (8 - 12). I would buy one of the 1 1/2 pound bags of Oreo cookies (enough to last for a couple of weeks) and the next DAY they would all be gone! NO BODY ate them!... (per childhood report). Hubby and I decided to try the "pepper egg" route. We carefully opened the bag and then EACH AND EVERY COOKIE. We scraped out all of the filling, just leaving a little ring at each edge and then filled the hollow with black pepper. We then carefully reassembled the cookie and repackaged the batch.

Next day .... cookies all GONE AGAIN!! Pepper and all!!

When we sat the kids down they still denied eating them .. finally the oldest one said,"Ya know they did taste a little funny."

Problem solved! We quit buying cookies.

Hmm, that's strange, we have a NO BODY here, too....DH told the kiddos when we find NO BODY, they're getting a good ol' fashioned spankin'!

Hah! Do you all get Family Circle comics? There's always a ghost-like child "Not Me!" running around the house, doing all the naughty things the kids claim was "Not me!"
