Blackbird's SS Journal - Country to City

Sally, I thought you said you used to dress like Cyndi Lauper???? Who would attack THAT?
lol, you must be thinking of someone else. I was always a running shoes, shorts and tee shirt kind of gal...no frills.

I do the key thing too. One time my car broke down at dusk in a bad part of town. Fortunately there were stores nearby and I was able to call someone for help. But I had to wait by my disabled car in the dark with creepy people walking past. Of course I was well dressed in fancy shoes since I just got off work
So I put my keys in my hand, keys sticking out between my fingers, my back to the car and stood tall and kept my eyes open. No-one even came close. I still breathed a huge sigh of relief, when my friend showed up.

Yours is the first journal I've read. Had to see how you were doing. :). Glad to hear you have comforts from home (aka "real" food). And your apartment is WAY nicer than my first one was too.

Stay safe!

Nice place!!
Hey, I love the way Cyndi dressed! If I had been shorter and "cooler" and creative I'd have dressed like that!

:D I love your place!

So much better than what I had... :gig I've seriously lived in some shady places.

I agree with the stuff clanging bit :lau and your non-fancy attire will help as well, you don't want to look like you have a fat wallet in your pocket.
:weee

One of the best ways to stay safe is to learn how to do so by reading the book by the renowned expert, Gavin De Becker, The Gift of Fear. I'm re-reading it, read it 10-12 years ago at the insistance of a good friend. The information has served me well. A little "clanging" helps, too. I have a canister...ok, two...of mace that I carry at times, depending on the situation. I've discovered that the really bad people know what mace looks like, even if you hide it in your hand. They back off.

I think it is great that you have that apartment by yourself. What a wonderful thing that will be. Who could possibly be a match for you right now anyways? You are so unique, a room-mate would likely drive you nuts. Don't worry about furniture. It will come, bit by bit. I lived for a while with a peach crate as a night stand, a folding chair and a card table for my kitchen furniture. It works. It will do. As will your reasonably priced clothes. Save your money (if there is any after rent and food!) for your future.
