Boyd - Day in the life of a hillbilly stuck in Michigan..

I think about the no electricity situation too. Here, heating would not be a problem, but cooling would. Did you say the book you read was called One Second After? I haven't heard of it...but then there is a lot I haven't heard of.

That's the book. One Second After. An EMP takes out all transistor based systems in the US. No commo, no grid, most cars stop working, anything with a chip is down. What then? It's an interesting (and scary) read. I read it on my Kindle - which always kinda tickles my funny bone. It did remind me that I want to have reference books in hard copy.

Boyd, are you the same Boyd from my df group on fb? If so, nice to see you here.
Of course!!! There are only 3 boyd craven's in the Entire united states of America. g'pa, 'pa and of course the trouble making, hippy, straw hat wearing me!!!!!

Of course I am the family embarrassment. Finally got my life together after I met the right woman to set me straight!!!

Boyd, I love the color of your dirt! We have red mud... Its takes years to achieve a nice dirt color. I am very optimistic that the bank will take our puny offer on some forclosed 60 acres with a pond. Like you, Im worried what the next year will hold for us. Now I need to look into the tatoes in tires thing!

I've tried mounds and tires, and this year I tried a long row and hilled it and honestly, I am thinking I like the tire method the best. You can also drive 4 fence stakes, wrap the bottom with wire (think compost bin) line side w/ newspaper or landscape fabric and put in your soil, compost and tater slips. When you are done (much like the tire method) you unwrap wire and dig out the taters.

This is how I spent my sunday... Now I am always lecturing my kids (especially the foster kids) and a runaway that found us today that nothing is out of your reach! Never let fear paralyze you into inaction...

We went to Spicer's Orchard and my kids made me put my money where my mouth is... Of course they tried first and got about 15 feet off the ground... Not to be outdone by those whipper snappers I took off my coat, got strapped in and went at it.

My wife says the video she took on her phone is even funnier!

Great job!!!!!!! Someone would have had to come get me from the top as I would be frozen up there (completely unable to move)!!!!!!

it was fun, I just rappelled down to the bottom. Letting go of the wall was the hardest thing though.
