CC's 2019 Garden

Warmer here than there. Still no plants out, or tilling done:( You are doing great! We've had a warm Feb, but woke to 28 & 21 last 2 days. Geeeeesh...cut me a break! :he

We had good weather today after days of temps hovering in the low 20's to just above freezing. But we couldn't work in the garden. We had other things to do today. Sunday is going to be clear and sunny, we have a friend coming to cut dead trees and cut them up so we can burn them.

Saturday morning will be thunderstorms, but maybe Saturday afternoon...….

Depending on how much rain we get tomorrow. I might be able to get 2 rows of brussels sprouts set Sunday afternoon / evening. Then two rows of carrots sowed Monday evening after work. Then that will be it for the hardies.

1/2 hardies are next, beets and lettuces and 6 35' rows of shelling peas. But I think they will have to wait until next weekend because I see the temps are forecast @ 30 next Saturday. I'll play it by ear I reckon, they are weather guessers after all.

Yep, spring gardens are hard for sure... Success is highly dependent on timing and the weather. If it gets to hot to soon hardies just bolt and that is really disappointing.

Southern IL spring rains have begun. We had a lot of rain overnight and until this afternoon. But my Aquatic Engineering Degree from the Hillbilly School of Hard Knocks has paid off. It saved my garden, Billies 1, strong thunder storms 0 :)

The second year after we moved here sugar creek which is right behind my gardens became sugar pond then sugar lake. It flooded out both of my gardens :(. I walked the creek and found 2 beaver dams. I wasn't the only one with problems... So 6 of us Billies got a hold of some dynamite and blew those beaver dams to kingdom come. Haven't had a problem since, sugar creek is flowing nicely after the big rains today, again Billies 1, beavers 0 :)

Many opinions blew over and 2 broccoli snapped during the wind storm we had last night. I'll have to wade out there and stand the onions back up and replace a couple broccoli with cauliflower. The joys of gardening in the midwest. I kind of expected it actually because the winds were howling last night.

I just love auto-correct!

Great progress in the garden! You are inspiring me to go out there and start getting some beds ready and seeds sown :)
