chia is expensive
I was going to pick up a chia dog or cat last year and it was $29.99

You can actually make chia "stuff" out of the red clay statues. Just soak it in water, cover with dirt & rye seeds & put it somewhere warm. No magic to it, did it with the kids last summer as a science lesson.
All they did on the "pets & stuff" was make little ridges in the clay so the seeds would stick on better.

I don't understand . . . besides white elephant gifts, who buys these anyway? 
I thought it was racist when I saw it in the store today. Mainly just because I know African Americans tend to be very particular about their hair. It isn't like they made a chia pet "slick willie".

I doubt very seriously they meant it even remotely racist. They've done all sorts of people, both real & characters. Why, with all of the plates, posters, wall hangins and more that are available for the new pres, would they not be able to do "their" thing to commemorate our great leader?
